The Invalidity of the Laplace Law for Biological Vessels and of Estimating Elastic Modulus from Total Stress vs. Strain: a New Practical Method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The quantification of the stiffness of tubular biological structures is often obtained, both in vivo and in vitro, as the slope of total transmural hoop stress plotted against hoop strain. Total hoop stress is typically estimated using the "Laplace law."

Powder Optimization Strategies for Binder Jetting Printing of BaTiO3 and Ba0,6Sr0,4TiO3 Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Powder optimization is investigated to enable binder jetting of BaTiO3 and Ba0.6Sr0.4TiO3 ferroelectric ceramics. The antagonistic relationship between flowability and binder compatibility is addressed through binder impregnation of granulated powders and fumed silica addition to fine powders.

A contact problem aplication for the local behaviour of soil pile interaction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In geotechnical engineering, the main parameter for the performance of structures such as reinforced walls or deep foundations is often the shaft bearing capacity.

Numerical Modeling of Tank Cars Carrying Hazardous Materials With and Without Composite Metal Foam

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Large‐scale puncture models consisting of hazardous materials (HAZMATs) tank car with protective steel–steel composite metal foam (S–S CMF) are solved numerically. Tank car plate with added 10.91–13.33 mm thick S–S CMF layer does not puncture. Protective S–S CMF absorbs impact energy, reduces plate deformation, and prevents shear bands formation ...

Investigating the Cyclic and Post-Cyclic Behavior of Marl Soil Contaminated with Used Motor Oil [PDF]

open access: yesپژوهش‌های زیرساخت‌های عمرانی
Soil contamination has been on the rise with the increasing demand for oil and its derivatives, leading to both environmental hazards and potential impacts on the geotechnical behavior of soils.

A comparison of simple shear characterization methods for composite laminates [PDF]

open access: yes
Various methods for the shear stress-strain characterization of composite laminates are examined, and their advantages and limitations are briefly discussed. Experimental results and the necessary accompanying analysis are then presented and compared for

Modeling the deformation textures and microstructural evolutions of a Fe–Mn–C TWIP steel during tensile and shear testing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The high manganese austenitic steels with low stacking fault energy (SFE) present outstanding mechanical properties due to the occurrence of two strain mechanisms: dislocation glide and twinning. Both mechanisms are anisotropic.

Rafting of Ni‐Based Superalloys Under Multiaxial Load as Understood by Phase‐Field Simulations and Critical Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Phase‐field simulations coupled with dislocation‐density‐based crystal plasticity modeling reproduce γ′ rafting behavior in single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloys under varied loading conditions. The model captures both macroscopic creep and microscopic morphology evolution, with results matching high‐temperature creep experiments.

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

The Shear Response of Beryllium as a Function of Temperature and Strain Rate

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2018
A new specimen design has been developed to measure the shear response of materials. This compact forced-simple-shear specimen (CFSS) has been utilized to measure the shear stress/shear strain response of other materials [1, 2]. Earlier, unpublished work
