Settlement of Simply Supported Bridge
Journal of Structural Engineering, 1986When a simply supported bridge is treated by the usual method of calculation, where its different plane surfaces are considered to act independently of each other, settlement of one of its bearings does not create any additional stresses. However, if the same bridge is treated as a space structure, where all carrier surfaces act together to resist all ...

Buckling of Simply Supported Folded Plates
Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division, 1971The local elastic buckling of the component plate elements of single-cell, simply supported, folded-plate structures subjected to uniform transverse loads is investigated. Experimental studies on aluminum models have demonstrated the occurrence of such local buckling.

In-Plane Vibration of Simply Supported-Simply Supported Circular Ring Segments
13th Biennial Conference on Mechanical Vibration and Noise: Machinery Dynamics and Element Vibrations, 1991Abstract The general in-plane vibration problem of circular ring segments having linear and torsional elastic constraints at the ends has been studied. One of the interesting cases of concern for which there exists an exact solution is the case where the linear and torsional spring stiffnesses in the circumferential direction become zero

Analysis of simply supported uniform diagrids
Building Science, 1970Abstract A partial difference equation governing the deflection of a uniform diagrid loaded at the nodes is derived using the slope deflection equations for two orthogonally intersecting beams. Closed-form solution of the Navier type is obtained for the simply supported case.

Large Deformation of Simply Supported Beams
Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division, 1975The large deformation bending of simply supported beams, especially with asymmetric loads, has received little attention because of the difficulty in starting a solution. In this paper a numerical iterative method is used to obtain and thus establish the slope variation. From the slope variation, the required deflection quantities can be computed.

Simply Supported Rectangular Double-Layered Grids
Journal of the Structural Division, 1971The governing difference equations are given for a class of double-layered grids. They are solved for arbitrary loading by use of double finite Fourier series. The boundary conditions corresponding to this form of solution are shown, by a numerical comparison, to represent a good approximation to practical conditions of support.

Behavior of Simply Supported Slabs
Journal of the Structural Division, 1969DESTRUCTIVE TESTS ON PROTOTYPE REINFORCED CONCRETE SLABS DESIGNED BY JOHANSEN'S YIELD-LINE METHOD, HILLERBORG'S STRIP METHOD, AND THE ELASTIC DESIGN METHOD ARE DESCRIBED. THE YIELD AND FAILURE CHARACTERISTICS OF THESE SLABS ARE THEN COMPARED WITH THOSE OBTAINED FROM SLABS DESIGNED BY THREE OPTIMUM LOWER-BOUND APPROACHES.

Design of Simply Supported Beams
2013In this chapter, the physical model and failure criteria presented in Chap. 3 are used within the framework of current design philosophy for assessing the longitudinal and transverse reinforcement required for an RC beam to satisfy the requirements of current codes for load-carrying capacity and ductility.

Modelling of Simply-Supported Beams
2013In this chapter, the qualitative description of the beam behaviour presented in Chap. 2 is transformed into a physical model with behavioural characteristics (such as, for example, crack pattern, internal actions, transfer mechanism of external load to the supports, failure mechanism, etc.) similar to those of a real simply-supported beam at its ...
