Effect of simulated acid rain on reproductive attributes of red spruce (Picea rubens sarg.)

open access: yes, 1990
Red spruce (Picea rubens Sarg.) growth and reproduction is declining in many areas of the eastern United States (Klein and Perkins, Bot. Rev. 54, 1-43, 1988). An often cited cause of this decline is air pollution.

A Method for Identifying Rainfall‐Runoff Events at Sub‐Hourly Time Scales: Applications for Nature‐Based Solutions and Water Resources

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Understanding how changes in catchment conditions affect ecohydrology in response to rainfall‐runoff events is crucial when developing informed strategies to enhance flow resilience, restore natural habitats, interpret water quality data or reduce flood risk.

Evaluation of concrete deterioration under simulated acid rain environment

open access: yes, 2019
Acid rain is identified as one of the most serious environmental problems nowadays and it is mainly a mixture of sulfuric and nitric acids. Deterioration of concrete structures exposed to aggressive acid rain attack is a key durability issue that affects

Structure and functional genes associated with carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, and sulfur cycling processes in periphyton: A comparison between natural and artificial rivers

open access: yesRiver, EarlyView.
Network analysis of functional genes among prokaryotes, and eukaryotes in natural and artificial rivers. Abstract Periphyton in aquatic ecosystems plays vital roles in the elemental cycle process and is vulnerable to anthropogenic interference. However, few studies have explored the elemental cycles of carbon (C), nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and ...

Ecological and Technological Insights to Enhance Rice Production: A Machine Learning Approach for Sustainable Agriculture in Granma, Cuba

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Amid the quest for sustainable agriculture, this study explores key ecological and technological factors influencing crop production under climate change. We conduct a comprehensive assessment of temperature, biomass, farmer education, renewable energy devices, greenhouse gas emissions and their effects on rice yields in Granma, Cuba, from ...

Mechanistic Insight into H2S‐Induced Fluorescence Quenching in a Robust Metal–Organic Framework

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
An ultramicroporous Zn‐based metal‐organic framework, MFM‐520, enables reversible hydrogen sulfide adsorption and selective fluorescence sensing. Confinement of H2S within the pores perturbs ligand‐centered excited states through weak host‐guest interactions, enhancing non‐radiative decay pathways.

Transport of pollutants through the water and subsurface soil using simulated acid rain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The mobility of heavy metals (Zn, Cd, Pb and Ni) was studied in the laboratory acidic leaching two different soils around Ibadan with simulated acid rain. The sampling was carried out from two different sites viz: Orogun and Ilupeju respectively.

Assessment of Oxidative Stress, Vitellogenin, and Human Health Risks Derived From Nile Tilapia Exposed to Metals and Metalloids in Southeastern Brazil

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Urban coastal lagoons are highly vulnerable ecosystems increasingly affected by metal contamination, as well as multiple anthropogenic stressors. This study evaluated ecotoxicological and human health risks associated with chronic metal exposure in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) from an anthropogenically impacted lagoon in southeastern ...
