Peptide‐based ligand antagonists block a Vibrio cholerae adhesin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The structure of a peptide‐binding domain of the Vibrio cholerae adhesin FrhA was solved by X‐ray crystallography, revealing how the inhibitory peptide AGYTD binds tightly at its Ca2+‐coordinated pocket. Structure‐guided design incorporating D‐amino acids enhanced binding affinity, providing a foundation for developing anti‐adhesion therapeutics ...

Outreach simulation for system improvement: a novel advocacy and reporting process

open access: yesAdvances in Simulation
Introduction Healthcare simulation programmes measuring their value risk wasting resources in attempts to prove they impact patient outcomes. Simulation is one of many strategies used to enhance healthcare systems, and proving specific correlation with ...

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

Understanding the Role of Achievements in Game-Based Learning

open access: yesInternational Journal of Serious Games, 2016
The objective of the current research was to examine whether one potentially effective gaming strategy—achievements—has a positive impact on learning in a game-based environment. An achievement in a video game is a reward or recognition earned by players

PRE-scripted debriefing for Paediatric simulation Associated with Resuscitation EDucation (PREPARED): A multicentre, cluster randomised controlled trial

open access: yesResuscitation Plus, 2022
Aim: Scripted debriefing tools may improve the performance of novices debriefing in resuscitation courses, but this has not previously been measured. The aim of this study was to determine the impact of a script on the quality of debriefs in a statewide ...

Proficiency-Based Cervical Cancer Brachytherapy Training: An Effort to Combat Recent Trends in Radiation Oncology That Result in Worse Outcomes for an Underserved Population through Resident Education [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Radiation therapy is the mainstay of treatment for women with cervical cancer with disease outside of the uterine cervix. To deliver the high doses needed for cure, brachytherapy (BT) is necessary to avoid toxicity to normal tissues (1).

Biomechanically Compliant Gynecologic Training Simulator

open access: yesSimulation in Healthcare: The Journal of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, 2022
Introduction Pap smear training is commonly conducted using simulators before practicing with humans. Unfortunately, existing simulators do not well simulate the biomechanical properties of pelvic tissues, and this may negatively impact the training outcome.
