Acoustic superradiance from an optical-superradiance-induced vortex in a Bose-Einstein condensate

open access: yes, 2014
We consider the simultaneous scattering of an angular momentum carrying Laguerre-Gaussian light beam and an acoustic wave from an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate, under condition of optical superradiance induced vortex state.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Iterative color-multiplexed, electro-optical processor [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
A noncoherent optical vector-matrix multiplier using a linear LED source array and a linear P-I-N photodiode detector array has been combined with a 1-D adder in a feedback loop.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Simultaneous versus Nonsimultaneous Blowup for a System of Heat Equations Coupled Boundary Flux

open access: yesBoundary Value Problems, 2007
This paper deals with a semilinear parabolic system in a bounded interval, completely coupled at the boundary with exponential type. We characterize completely the range of parameters for which nonsimultaneous and simultaneous blowup occur.

The puzzling association between accounting conservatism and corporate social responsibility [PDF]

open access: yesAJAR (Asian Journal of Accounting Research)
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to focus on exploring the mutual impact of accounting conservatism and corporate social responsibility (CSR). Design/methodology/approach – To empirically assess the theoretical arguments the authors estimate a ...

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

Simultaneous Equation Systems Involving Binary Choice Variables [PDF]

open access: yesGeographical Analysis, 1990
In this paper a simultaneous modeling system for dichotomous endogenous variables is developed and applied empirically to longitudinal travel demand data of modal choice. The reported research is motivated by three factors. First, the analysis of discrete data has become standard practice among geographers, sociologists, and economists.

A simultaneous equation model to determine taper curve.

open access: yesSilva Fennica, 1978
A simultaneous equation model to determine taper curve for Scots pine is presented. The diameters at relative heights are endogenous variables and height an exogenous variable. Any equations may be substituted by the measured value of diameter.

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox
