HIGH TEMPERATURE FATIGUE IN SINGLE CRYSTAL SUPERALLOYS

Fatigue & Fracture of Engineering Materials & Structures, 1997
Abstract— The growth rate of fatigue cracks in two single crystal nickel base superalloys, CMSX‐6 and SRR99, along the <001> planes are presented and rationalised in terms of two interacting crack propagation mechanisms: one attributed to crack tip plastic blunting and the other attributed to the brittle failure of the oxide scales.

Recycled Applications of a Single Crystal Superalloy

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
The effects of application of recycled scraps on the composition, microstructure and mechanical properties of SRR99 alloy were studied. The compositions of recycle master alloy are similar to that of the fresh alloy. However, nitrogen content, the size and amount of microporosity increase significantly with the recycle material proportion.

Strengthening Mechanisms in Some Single-Crystal Superalloys

Materials Science Forum, 2005
The creep behavior and microstructure of several nickel-base single-crystal superalloys after high-temperature low-stress creep have been investigated. These alloys were designed with varying content of the alloying elements Mo and Ru. At 1100°C and 137 MPa, the large g/g¢ lattice misfit in negative with the addition of Mo leads to the formation of ...

Multicycle Fatigue of Single Crystal Nickel Superalloy

Metallurgist, 2018
Multicycle fatigue of an experimental low-alloy single-crystal nickel-base superalloy is studied in relation to crystal orientation and test temperature. It is established that with an increase in test temperature from 20 to 900°C a change is observed in the shape of the multicycle fatigue curve.

Joining of nickel base superalloy single crystals

Science and Technology of Welding and Joining, 2004
The paper reviews scientific and technological issues related to repair weldability of nickel base single crystal superalloys. The role of weld pool geometry and crystallographic orientation of the single crystals on the solidification grain structure was discussed.

Plastic Strain Localization in Superalloy Single Crystals.

1986
Abstract : Nickel-base superalloys are notorious for their inhomogeneous deformation and poor fatigue behavior. Previous studies that the slip was 'planar' or, equivalently, 'coarse' , independent of alloy composition. In this research, single crystal nickel alloys of various gamma prime volume fraction and misfit were deformed under either monotonic ...

Tensile Anisotropy of a Single Crystal Superalloy

2013
To investigate the orientation and temperature dependence of the tensile strength in single crystal superalloys, tensile tests were carried out on a single crystal nickel-based superalloy with three orientations of tensile axis: [001], [011] and [111], in the temperature range from 20 to 1100°C.

Fracture of nickel-base superalloy single crystals

Materials Science and Engineering, 1983
Abstract Single-crystal subsize Charpy impact specimens of a model nickel-base superalloy were machined so as to propagate a crack in two directions through the lattice. Instrumented impact fracture testing was accomplished at ambient and elevated temperatures after which scanning electron microscopy fractography was performed to evaluate the effects
