On axisymmetric adhesive joints with graded interface stiffness

open access: yes, 2013
An improved analytical model is presented for the stress analysis of interface stiffness graded axisymmetric adhesive joints. The governing integro-differential equation of the problem is obtained through a variational method which minimizes the ...

Lactobacillus‐Loaded Bioadhesive Hydrogel with Prolonged Retention and Microenvironmental Remodeling for Endometrial Repair and Fertility Restoration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A bioactive adhesive hydrogel capable of long‐term uterine retention (>14 days) and local microenvironment modulation is developed by straightforward integration of α‐lipoic acid, L‐arginine, tannic acid, and Lactobacillus johnsonii, which can markedly enhance endometrial repair and restore fertility in a rat model of endometrial injury.

Investigation on Void Effect on Shear Stress Field in Bonded Stepped-Lap Joint

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Solids and Structures
In this paper, an adhesively-bonded stepped-lap joint suffering from a void within its adhesive layer is investigated. The void separates the layer into two sections.

Engineered Cyanobacteria‐Hydrogel Microecological System for Oxygen Reprogramming Synergizes Immunomodulation With Anabolism in Osteoarthritis Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An injectable cyanobacteria‐laden hydrogel enables light‐dependent oxygen metabolism engineering for osteoarthritis therapy. Photosynthetic oxygen release under red light irradiation suppresses synovial inflammation via HIF‐1α inhibition and M2 macrophage polarization, while respiratory oxygen consumption in darkness stabilizes chondrocyte HIF‐1α to ...

Abstract Representation of Movement Parameters in Basal Ganglia Output

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The basal ganglia output provides a scalable velocity/position signal across behavioral contexts, supporting the idea that these variables are represented in the brain as abstract entities rather than as fixed changes in joint angles or specific sets of body effectors.

Stress distribution of secondary bending in single-lap bolted joints with dissimilar joining plates and plate types [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Single-lap joints are an important class of bolted joint in the aerospace and civil engineering sectors. This type of joint is preferred as it can reduce weight and hence help to optimize fuel efficiency.

Nascent Extracellular Matrix Converts Biomaterial Cues into Cell Fate Decisions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study uncovers a tri‐directional interplay among cells, hydrogels, and their nascent extracellular matrix. Hydrogel norbornene modification alters CD44‐mediated cell–hydrogel interactions, which shape nascent matrix deposition, composition, and spatial organization.

Strain gradient plasticity in AISI A36 plain carbon steel weldment: Comparison of butt and lap joint configurations

open access: yesResults in Engineering
Strain gradient plasticity phenomenon in the parent material (PM), heat affected zone (HAZ) and fusion zone (FZ) of butt and lap joint of shielded metal arc welded AISI A36 steel is studied. The deformation mechanisms of the weldment were explained using

High‐Performance Bio‐Based Epoxy Vitrimers and Composites: Synergizing Robustness and Reprocessability via Fractional Free Volume Regulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this work, two bio‐based epoxy monomers were designed to tune the dynamic network of a rigid–flexible hybrid epoxy through free‐volume control, achieving a synergy among high free volume, high cross‐linking density, and segmental mobility while balancing strength and toughness.
