III Single-Longitudinal-Mode Semiconductor Lasers

1988
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) semiconductor lasers. The use of single-mode fibers has eliminated the problem of modal noise. The chapter reviews the recent progress in the field of SLM semiconductor lasers. The physics of semiconductor lasers is discussed and the material system and the structure commonly

Tm-fiber pumped single-longitudinal-mode Ho:LuVO4 laser

Optical and Quantum Electronics, 2016
We demonstrated a Tm-fiber pumped single-longitudinal-mode Ho:LuVO4 laser with intra-cavity Fabry–Perot etalons. By the use of an output coupler with a transmission of 2%, the Ho:LuVO4 laser generated a continuous-wave output power of 609 mW at 2074.72 nm.

Low-order longitudinal modes of single-component plasmas

Physics of Plasmas, 1995
The low-order modes of spheroidal, pure electron plasmas have been studied experimentally, both in a cylindrical electrode structure and in a quadrupole trap. Comparison is made between measurements of mode frequencies, recent analytical theories, and numerical simulations.

Single longitudinal mode operation of an XeCl laser

Applied Physics Letters, 1984
Single longitudinal mode output from a directly tuned, long pulse, magnetically switched XeCl laser is reported for the first time. Mode control was achieved using spatial aperatures and intracavity etalons. The narrow bandwidth laser output was diffraction limited with an optical pulse width of 30 ns, which would yield a transform limited bandwidth of

Partition fluctuations in nearly single-longitudinal-mode lasers

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 1984
A simple model of mode partition noise is developed, which is valid for semiconductor lasers operating CW, having a single active region and oscillating primarily in one dominant mode. It is shown that the intensity fluctuations in the nonlasing modes occur with characteristic times of a few nanoseconds and have exponential probability distributions ...

Versatile high-power single-longitudinal-mode pulsed dye laser

Applied Optics, 1981
A versatile high-spectral-energy density dye laser suitable for lidar applications and high-resolution spectroscopy is reported. The dye laser includes an oscillator and preamplifier and two amplifier stages. With transverse pumping by the second harmonic of a Nd:YAG laser, an efficiency of 55% was achieved at 589 nm, providing 165 mJ in a single ...

Highly efficient single longitudinal mode-pulsed green laser

Chinese Optics Letters, 2013
A novel design for a highly ecient 1-kHz single-frequency green laser is proposed. An ecient single-frequency laser pulse output at 532-nm wavelength may be obtained by combining the injection seeding with intracavity frequency doubling in a compact U-shaped cavity formed by two plano dichroic mirrors in an end-pumping arrangement. The laser is capable
