Surface-electrode ion trap with integrated light source
An atomic ion is trapped at the tip of a single-mode optical fiber in a cryogenic (8 K) surface-electrode ion trap. The fiber serves as an integrated source of laser light, which drives the quadrupole qubit transition of $^{88}$Sr$^+$.

Ultra-wideband radio signals distribution in FTTH networks [PDF]
The use of an ultra-wideband (UWB) radio technique is proposed as a viable solution for the distribution of high-definition audio/video content in fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) networks.

Reduced Muscular Carnosine in Proximal Myotonic Myopathy—A Pilot 1H‐MRS Study
ABSTRACT Objective Myotonic dystrophy type 2 (proximal myotonic myopathy, PROMM) is a progressive multisystem disorder with muscular symptoms (proximal weakness, pain, myotonia) and systemic manifestations such as diabetes mellitus, cataracts, and cardiac arrhythmias.

Optical Fiber Cladding SPR Sensor Based on Core-Shift Welding Technology
The typical structure of an optical fiber surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor, which has been widely investigated, is to produce the SPR phenomenon by the transmission of light in a fiber core.

Whole‐Body Pattern of Muscle Degeneration and Progression in Sarcoglycanopathies
ABSTRACT Objective To characterize whole‐body intramuscular fat distribution pattern in patients with sarcoglycanopathies and explore correlations with disease severity, duration and age at onset. Methods Retrospective, cross‐sectional, multicentric study enrolling patients with variants in one of the four sarcoglycan genes who underwent whole‐body ...

ABSTRACT Objective To determine the concentration of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and plasma in Alexander disease (AxD) and whether GFAP levels are predictive of disease phenotypes. Methods CSF and plasma were collected (longitudinally when available) from AxD participants and non‐AxD controls.

A Detailed Study of a Resonant-Assisted Segmented Cladding Fiber for Large Mode Area Applications
In this work, we have proposed and optimized a large mode area segmented cladding fiber (SCF) with an unconventional low-index segment cladding. The low-refractive-index cladding proposed in this paper consists of three parts.

ABSTRACT Introduction Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) is a neurodegenerative ‘tauopathy’ with predominating pathology in the basal ganglia and midbrain. Caudal tau spread frequently implicates the cerebellum; however, the pattern of atrophy remains equivocal.

Over 19 W Single-Mode 1545 nm Er,Yb Codoped All-Fiber Laser
We report a high-power cladding-pumped Er,Yb codoped all-fiber laser with truly single transverse mode output. The fiber laser is designed to operate at 1545 nm by the use of a pair of fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) to lock and narrow the output spectrum ...
