Single-Mode–Multimode–Single-Mode Optical Fiber Sensing Structure With Quasi-Two-Mode Fibers

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2018
This paper reviews some aspects of optical fiber sensors based on a single-mode (SM)-multimode (MM)-SM structure and reports on the realization of temperature sensors in which the MM section is made by a quasi-two mode fiber. Two different realizations are compared that rely on: 1) a bend-insensitive fiber operated in the second optical communication ...

All-chalcogenide single-mode optical fiber couplers

Optics Letters, 2019
We demonstrate the fabrication of all chalcogenide single-mode optical fiber couplers including broadband couplers, wavelength division multiplexers, and polarization beamsplitters. The functionality of each coupler is engineered with a careful design of geometry. As a result, broadband couplers can be set to any arbitrary coupling ratio.

Characterization of single-mode optical fiber filters

Applied Optics, 1981
The fabrication of narrowband highly reflecting filters in single-mode step-index fibers was reported recently by Hill et al. [Appl. Phys. Lett. 32, 647 (1978)]. The underlying effect on which these filters are based is a photoinduced refractive-index change in the GeO(2) used as a core dopant in SiO(2) fibers.

Single Mode Fiber Optic Components

IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics, 1981
In the process of studying single-mode fiber optic systems it became rapidly apparent a few years ago that it would be desirable to perform a number of functions with in-line components, which would allow for signal processing without the removal of the optical signal from the fiber.

Single-mode fiber-optic polarizer

Optics Letters, 1980
A technique is presented for the fabrication of high-quality single-mode fiber-optic polarizers. Properties of polarizers made using this technique include extinction ratios in excess of 60 dB as well as low loss for the desired polarization.
