All-Solid Single-Polarization Anti-Resonant Fiber Base on Anisotropic Glass

open access: yesPhotonics, 2023
A single-polarization solid-core anti-resonant fiber is proposed, and the influence of the fiber core material anisotropy of the solid-core anti-resonant fiber on polarization characteristics is investigated using the finite element method.

Rare Earth Doped Optical Fibers with Multi-section Core

open access: yesiScience, 2019
Summary: The gain bandwidth of a single-mode fiber is limited by the atomic transitions of one rare earth gain element. Here we overcome this long-standing challenge by designing a new single-mode fiber with multi-section core, where each section is ...

Cascaded Mode-Division-Multiplexing and Time-Division-Multiplexing Passive Optical Network Based on Low Mode-Crosstalk FMF and Mode MUX/DEMUX

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2015
We propose cascaded mode-division-multiplexing and time-division-multiplexing passive optical network (MDM-TDM-PON) based on low mode-crosstalk few-mode fiber (FMF) and all-fiber mode multiplexer/demultiplexer (MUX/DEMUX), in which optical network units ...

Quantum dot single-photon emission coupled into single-mode fibers with 3D printed micro-objectives

open access: yesAPL Photonics, 2020
User-friendly single-photon sources with high photon-extraction efficiency are crucial building blocks for photonic quantum applications. For many of these applications, such as long-distance quantum key distribution, the use of single-mode optical ...

Depolarization in a single-mode optical fiber [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Lightwave Technology, 1983
The reduction of the degree of polarization of broad-band light due to propagation in ordinary single-mode fiber is examined theoretically and experimentally. Previous work is extended to account for polarization-mode coupling along the fiber by developing a model for one discrete mode-coupling center and extending it qualitatively to include multiple ...

Сompensator of polarization mode dispersion based on spiral-wound single-mode fiber [PDF]

open access: yesTekhnologiya i Konstruirovanie v Elektronnoi Apparature, 2013
A polarization mode dispersion (PMD) compensator for single-mode optical fiber has been designed. Its operation principle is based on the use of artificial difference of phase velocities of the basic ordinary and extraordinary waves in spiral-wound fiber,

Demonstration of Coherent Interference between Acoustic Waves Using a Fiber Ring Resonator

open access: yesSensors, 2022
Optical fibers were previously demonstrated to propagate and detect acoustic modes that were converted from Lamb waves for structural health-monitoring applications; typically, a fiber Bragg grating sensor in the optical fiber is used to detect acoustic ...

Birefringence assessment of single-mode optical fibers

open access: yesOptics Express, 2005
Using the Poincaré sphere and wavelength scanning it is possible to determine if the fiber birefringence corresponds to that of a linear, circular or elliptical retarder, as well as to obtain an approximate measurement of the polarization beatlength. This method is useful for low birefringence single-mode fibers. It is applied to erbium-doped fibers.
