Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Heavy-element damage seeding in proteins under XFEL illumination
Serial femtosecond X-ray crystallography (SFX) captures the structure and dynamics of biological macromolecules at high spatial and temporal resolutions. The ultrashort pulse produced by an X-ray free-electron laser (XFEL) `outruns' much of the radiation

Raman detection of single airborne aerosol particles of isovanillin
Single airborne aerosol particle of isovanillin were detected using a compact Raman spectroscopy system. The Raman system consisted of a 10 W, 532-nm cw laser, a 50x aerosol concentrator, an aerosol flow cell, an f/1.0 single-sided collection optics, an ...

SPEDEN: Reconstructing single particles from their diffraction patterns
Speden is a computer program that reconstructs the electron density of single particles from their x-ray diffraction patterns, using a single-particle adaptation of the Holographic Method in crystallography. (Szoke, A., Szoke, H., and Somoza, J.R., 1997.

Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Distribution of lead in single atmospheric particles [PDF]
Three independent single particle mass spectrometers measured Pb in individual aerosol particles. These data provide unprecedented sensitivity and statistical significance for the measurement of Pb in single particles. This paper explores the reasons for

Exact Activation Energy of Magnetic Single Domain Particles
I present the exact analytical expression for the activation energy as a function of externally applied magnetic fields for a single--domain magnetic particle with uniaxial anisotropy (Stoner--Wohlfahrt model), and investigate the scaling behavior of the

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...
