Asymmetric single point incremental forming of sheet metal

CIRP Annals, 2005
The use of computers in manufacturing has enabled the development of several new sheet metal forming processes, which are based upon older technologies. This paper describes modifications that have been made to traditional forming methods such as conventional spinning and shear forming, forming processes in which deformation is localized.

Incremental Single Point Forming

Manufacturing Engineering, 2000
Abstract The process of single point incremental micro-plastic forming is presented. This process is used to form sheet metal into complicated shapes without the use of either a male or female die. The process uses a single point tool which plastically deforms sheet metal to give a local micro-deformation.

Single point incremental forming

International Journal of Materials and Product Technology, 2008
Traditional sheet metal forming requires expensive dedicated dies, both positive and negative dies, where each die mimics one side of the desired part. Modern manufacturing industry strives to be flexible and to respond to customer needs. This trend toward flexibility requires new sheet metal forming methods.

Failure in single point incremental forming

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2015
This paper revisits the formability limits of single point incremental forming (SPIF) in the light of fundamental concepts of plasticity and ductile fracture mechanics. The paper has a twofold objective of investigating the limiting strain pairs at fracture in parts showing and not showing signs of necking before cracking and of demonstrating that ...

Single Point Incremental Metal Forming

Brooklyn Says, "Move to Detroit": Project Proceedings, 2017
Single Point Incremental Metal Forming(SPIMF) is a process that allows architectural panels to be incrementally formed from sheet metal into doubly-curved complex shapes using a robotic arm and a stylus-like end effector. SPIMF leverages industrial robots’ precision and strength by gradually pushing the end effect or into vertically supported sheet ...

Simulation Study for Robot-based Single Point Incremental Forming

International Conference on Industrial Engineering, Applications and Manufacturing, 2023
The present study investigates the toolpath definition for the numerical simulation of the Single Point Incremental Forming (SPIF). Since the toolpath definition greatly influences the geometrical accuracy of the formed part, substantial research has ...
