Effect of Maternal Weight Gain on Neonatal Birth Weight and Pregnancy Outcomes in Normal Pre-pregnancy Body Mass Index

open access: yesThai Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, 2015
Objective:To compare neonatal birth weight, incidence of large for gestational age (LGA), macrosomia and pregnancy outcomes between excessive and normal maternal weight gain in singleton pregnancies with normal pre-pregnancy body mass index ...

Selective termination to a singleton pregnancy is ethically justified [PDF]

open access: yesUltrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology, 1992
AbstractConsensus presently opposes selective termination of a multifetal pregnancy to a singleton. We reject this consensus because the arguments made in defense of it are deficient. We show that these arguments rely on the indefensible assumption that the previable fetus possesses independent moral status.

Unraveling a Diagnostic Enigma: A TECPR2 Case Solved Through Multi‐Omic Genomics

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT TECPR2 is a key regulator of autophagy, encoded by the TECPR2 gene. Pathogenic variants in this gene have been linked to a rare hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy with intellectual disability (HSAN9). We report a teenage female with a syndromic intellectual disability disorder associated with neuromuscular abnormalities.

Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome in a spontaneous singleton pregnancy [PDF]

open access: yesEinstein (São Paulo), 2016
ABSTRACT The ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome is the combination of increased ovarian volume, due to the presence of multiple cysts and vascular hyperpermeability, with subsequent hypovolemia and hemoconcentration. We report a case of spontaneous syndrome in a singleton pregnancy. This was a spontaneous pregnancy with 12 weeks of gestational age.

Development and Characterization of Ribes nigrum Extract‐Loaded PLGA/Chitosan Nanoparticles as a Vaginal Drug Delivery System for Vulvovaginal Candidiasis

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, EarlyView.
Ribes nigrum extract‐loaded PLGA/chitosan nanoparticles is developed as a vaginal drug delivery system for vulvovaginal candidiasis. The chitosan‐coated nanoparticles exhibit favorable physicochemical properties, strong mucoadhesion, sustained release for up to 2 weeks, excellent biocompatibility, and potent antifungal activity against Candida albicans,

Association between adverse obstetric history and perinatal outcomes in singleton and twin pregnancies: a retrospective study

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine
ObjectiveThis study aimed to understand how adverse obstetric history affects perinatal outcomes in singleton and twin pregnancies, and to determine whether a twin pregnancy is a risk factor for adverse outcomes among women with an adverse obstetric ...

Over the edge: Empirical evidence for the cliff‐edge model of obstetric selection

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The cliff‐edge model of obstetric selection maintains that larger neonates and smaller birth canals confer a positive selective advantage until labor becomes obstructed and vaginal delivery is no longer possible, eliciting an abrupt reduction in fitness.

Twin pregnancies and the limits of the energetics of gestation and growth hypothesis

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The “Energetics of Gestation and Growth” (EGG) hypothesis proposes that human birth timing and the associated secondary altriciality of human newborns is determined by limits in maternal metabolic capacity. According to this model, labor is triggered when the increasing fetal energy requirements exceed the expectant mother's maximum sustained ...
