Flexural Behavior of 3D‐Printed Porous Bouligand‐Structured Polymers: Influence of Pitch Angle and Porosity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how helicoidal architectures with different porosities respond to bending. Adjusting layer angle and spacing in 3D‐printed polymers reveals clear tradeoffs between stiffness, strength, and energy absorption. Experiments and simulations highlight designs that distribute stress effectively, offering pathways for optimizing lightweight

State dependent predictability: impact of uncertainty dynamics, uncertainty structure and model inadequacies [PDF]

open access: yesNonlinear Processes in Geophysics, 2004
The implications of state dependent, finite time error growth has been studied using singular values in a chaotic 2-dimensional map. Earlier studies have demonstrated the superiority of the singular values over the Lyapunov number in ...

Singular numbers and Stickelberger relation

open access: yes, 2006
Let p be an odd prime. Let K_p = Q(zeta) be the p-cyclotomic field. Let pi be the prime ideal of K_p lying over p. Let G be the Galois group of K_p. Let v be a primitive root mod p. Let sigma be a Q-isomorphism of K_p. Let P(sigma) = sigma^{p-2}v^{-(p-2)}+ ... + sigma v^{-1} +1 in Z[G], where v^n is understood (mod p).

Is an Apple an Orange? A Large Language Model Benchmark for Candidate Term Extraction and Subclass Decisions Against Upper Ontologies in Engineering and Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Building machine‐readable vocabularies for materials science is slow, expert‐driven work. This study benchmarks 13 large language models on two of its first steps: finding candidate terms in engineering articles and deciding where they belong in a class hierarchy.

Optimization design of configurable standard-type coils based on singular value decomposition for transcranial magnetic stimulation

open access: yesAIP Advances
Objective: This study aims to introduce a configurable standard-type (CST) coil design methodology that can accommodate different stimulation needs through the overlapping of standard coil components, while ensuring the performance of CST coil approaches

Ontology‐Aligned Structuring and Reuse of Multimodal Materials Data and Workflows Toward Automatic Reproduction

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Reproduction of stacking fault energy calculations from literature with a semi‐automated large language model‐assisted extraction procedure: extraction of simulation protocol, atomistic structures, computational parameters, and reported results, ontology alignment, knowledge graph construction and, finally, recomputation forvalidation.

Distinct Microstructural Characteristic Lengths Defining Notch Fatigue Crack Initiation and Propagation, and Defect Tolerance in Advanced Steels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Schematic representation of modes of microcrack nucleation, growth and temporary arrestment at different boundaries, with the criteria for crack propagation in three scenarios: (1) large notch, (2) defect/small sharp notch, and (3) long crack. This work revisits and integrates results on the fatigue behavior of advanced bainitic steels (in particular ...

Microstructure Modification of Additively Manufactured Mo–9Si–8B by Annealing and Its Effects on High‐Temperature Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Postbuild annealing systematically modifies the phase fractions and morphology of EB‐PBF processed Mo–9Si–8B. Quantitative microstructure–property correlations reveal how controlled phase evolution enhances high‐temperature compressive strength and creep resistance.
