Singularities of Solutions of Singular Integral Equations

Ukrainian Mathematical Journal, 2002
This paper deals with a singular integral equation \[ Sq+Tq=f,\tag{1} \] where \(q(x)\) is an unknown function, \[ Sq(x):=aq(x)+\frac{1}{\pi }\text{v.p.} \int_{-1}^{1} \frac{q(\tau)}{\tau -x} d\tau,\;Tq(x):=\int_{-1}^{1}K(x,\tau)q(\tau) d\tau. \] It is assumed that the functions \(f\) and \(K\) smoothly depend on additional parameters.

Singular vacuum solutions as singular matter solutions: Where do spacetime singularities come from?

EPL (Europhysics Letters), 2017
A direct evidence for the existence of spacetime singularities is the existence of singularities in vacuum solutions of the Einstein equation. A singular vacuum solution implies that spacetime itself may have singularities. In this paper, we exemplify that a singular vacuum solution can also serve as a non-vacuum solution of the Einstein equation with ...

Numerical solution of singular Lyapunov equations

Numerical Linear Algebra with Applications, 2021
AbstractWe consider the numerical solution of large scale singular (continuous‐time) Lyapunov equations of the formAX + XA⊤ + BB⊤ = 0, whereAis semistable, that is, its spectrum is contained in the left half plane, with the exception of a few semisimple eigenvalues at zero. We also consider the case of a few semisimple eigenvalues on the imaginary axis.

Singular Solutions for Shallow Cylindrical Shells

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1973
Using solutions obtained by separation of variables, the set of singular solutions of the shallow cylindrical shell equation is completed by finding a particular integral of a second-order problem. These new solutions are investigated, and those for concentrated forces and for all displacement dislocations are identified.
