FROM SINGULARITY TO SINGULARITY

GAP BODHI TARU - A GLOBAL JOURNAL OF HUMANITIES, 2023
Due to the widespread growth and the flexibility to adopt itself to geo-socio-cultural changes, English has become a global language. This article intends to show the transgression of English from being the language of cultural hegemony (singularity) to becoming the language of multicultural identification in the light of the world Englishes (plurality)

Singularities of Solutions of Singular Integral Equations

Ukrainian Mathematical Journal, 2002
This paper deals with a singular integral equation \[ Sq+Tq=f,\tag{1} \] where \(q(x)\) is an unknown function, \[ Sq(x):=aq(x)+\frac{1}{\pi }\text{v.p.} \int_{-1}^{1} \frac{q(\tau)}{\tau -x} d\tau,\;Tq(x):=\int_{-1}^{1}K(x,\tau)q(\tau) d\tau. \] It is assumed that the functions \(f\) and \(K\) smoothly depend on additional parameters.

When is a singularity not a singularity?

International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 1980
In approximating a function with a pole‐like singularity at a non‐rational point a* by a rational polynomial, the approximating package will be robust (i.e. undetectably erroneous to a user) if the rational polynomial includes a factor which cancels out the pole to the full accuracy of the machine in use.

Lissajous singularities

Optics Letters, 2003
Coherent optical Lissajous states are easily created by nonlinear processes such as second-harmonic generation (SHG). Singular properties of such states are discussed and illustrated theoretically with non-phase-matched SHG of an ellipse field containing a C point.

Singular thoughts and singular propositions

Philosophical Studies, 2010
A singular thought about an object o is one that is directly about o in a characteristic way—grasp of that thought requires having some special epistemic relation to the object o, and the thought is ontologically dependent on o. One account of the nature of singular thought exploits a Russellian Structured Account of Propositions, according to which ...
