SINGULARITIES IN ARITHMETIC GEOMETRY (Algebraic Number Theory and Related Topics)

open access: yesSINGULARITIES IN ARITHMETIC GEOMETRY (Algebraic Number Theory and Related Topics)
This is a report of the recent developments on the study of singularities in positive and mixed characteristics based on the talk delivered by the author in the workshop “Algebraic Number Theory and Related Topics 2023” in Kyoto University. Since Y. André proved the direct summand conjecture via perfectoid spaces, many interesting and exciting results ...

Beyond Substitution—An Antipositionalist's Guide to Subtraction—

open access: yesPhilosophy and Phenomenological Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Existing accounts of relations do not properly account for variably polyadic relations: they fail to capture the relationship between completions of the same relation by different numbers of relata. This paper develops a fully general account of such relations by adding an operation of subtraction to the antipositionalist theory of relations ...

Reading Dürer in Late Sixteenth‐Century Padua: Matteo Macigni (ca. 1510–1582), His Library and the Annotated Institutionum geometricarum (Paris, 1535)

open access: yesRenaissance Studies, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article contributes to the history of material culture and intellectual biography by definitively identifying the Paduan scholar Matteo Macigni (ca. 1510–1582) as the author of the annotations found in a 1535 copy of Albrecht Dürer’s Institutionum geometricarum currently preserved in Vicenza.

Spatial depth for data in metric spaces

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Statistics, EarlyView.
Abstract We propose a novel measure of statistical depth, the metric spatial depth, for data residing in an arbitrary metric space. The measure assigns high (low) values for points located near (far away from) the bulk of the data distribution, allowing quantifying their centrality/outlyingness.

Image of mathematics: A case study of two women's early mathematics experiences

open access: yesSchool Science and Mathematics, EarlyView.
Abstract People often view mathematics as abstract, cold, and irrelevant to real life, and their school experiences likely influence such views. In this case study, we investigated the mathematics experiences of two women who participated in an afterschool girls‐only STEM club 30 years ago when they were in fifth and sixth grades.

Exploring 2D Geometric Shape Classification Using AI‐Driven Feature Tables in Mathematics

open access: yesSchool Science and Mathematics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study explored the effectiveness of an AI‐integrated instructional task designed to enhance preservice teachers' understanding of the features and hierarchical relationships of 2D geometric shapes. Originally developed and tested in online K‐12 professional development settings, this intervention was adapted for in‐person preservice ...

Geometric Algebra and Singularities arising in Differential Line Geometry (Local and global study of singularity theory of differentiable maps)

open access: yesGeometric Algebra and Singularities arising in Differential Line Geometry (Local and global study of singularity theory of differentiable maps)
This is a digest report of [12, 13]; we give an elementary characterization of local diffeomorphic types of singular ruled/developable surfaces in mathbb{R}^{3} and their bifurcations by using dual quaternions and mathcal{A}-classification theory of map-germs. Maps and manifolds are of class C^{infty} throughout.

On computing local monodromy and the numerical local irreducible decomposition

open access: yesTransactions of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 13, Issue 1, December 2026.
Abstract Similarly to the global case, the local structure of a holomorphic subvariety at a given point is described by its local irreducible decomposition. Geometrically, the key requirement for obtaining a local irreducible decomposition is to compute the local monodromy action of a generic linear projection at the given point, which is always well ...
