Lifshitz singularities

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 2012
Lifshitz spacetimes are possible gravitational duals to strongly coupled field theories with an anisotropic scaling symmetry. These spacetimes however, have a null curvature singularity. We find that higher dimensional embeddings of Lifshitz also have a similar singularity.

Revealing the structure of land plant photosystem II: the journey from negative‐stain EM to cryo‐EM

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Advances in cryo‐EM have revealed the detailed structure of Photosystem II, a key protein complex driving photosynthesis. This review traces the journey from early low‐resolution images to high‐resolution models, highlighting how these discoveries deepen our understanding of light harvesting and energy conversion in plants.

Manipulation of Energy Flow with X-Type Vortex

open access: yesPhotonics, 2022
In this study, a new method for manipulating energy flow in a 3D vector field is proposed. In this method, an azimuthally-polarized beam with a noncanonical vortex, the X-type vortex, is focused in a high-numerical aperture system.

Metric Singularities

open access: yesRocky Mountain Journal of Mathematics, 1999
Consider a smooth manifold \(M\) and \(g\) a smooth section of the bundle of symmetric two tensors on \(M\). A point \(p\in M\) such that \(g_p\) is degenerate is called a metric singularity. In the first part of this paper, an interesting existence and uniqueness theorem for geodesics through a metric singular point is proven (Theorem 2.6).

Phase singularity diffusion [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2014
We follow the trajectories of phase singularities at nulls of intensity in the speckle pattern of waves transmitted through random media as the frequency of the incident radiation is scanned in microwave experiments and numerical simulations. Phase singularities are observed to diffuse with a linear increase of the square displacement with frequency ...

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Miniature Manipulator Design and Cartesian Control for Minimally Invasive Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery

open access: yesMicromachines, 2022
This paper presents a miniature manipulator under Cartesian control for minimally invasive transluminal endoscopic surgery. The manipulator had four degrees of freedom (DoFs) and a diameter of only 3.5 mm.

HYPERSURFACE EXCEPTIONAL SINGULARITIES [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics, 2001
This paper studies hypersurface exceptional singularities in [Formula: see text] defined by non-degenerate function. For each canonical hypersurface singularity, there exists a weighted homogeneous singularity such that the former is exceptional if and only if the latter is exceptional.

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.
