Approximate Projectors in Singular Spectrum Analysis [PDF]

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Matrix Analysis and Applications, 2003
The authors present an approach to the singular spectrum analysis (SSA) using an effective and numerically stable high-degree polynomial approximation of a spectral projector, which also provides a means of time-series forecasting. The method of computing \(X_I =\sum_{i\in I} X_i\) (where \(I\) is a set of indices for which the singular-value ...

Singularity Analysis and Geometric Optimization of a 6-DOF Parallel Robot for SILS

open access: yesMachines, 2022
The paper presents the singularity analysis and the geometric optimization of a 6-DOF (Degrees of Freedom) parallel robot for SILS (Single-Incision Laparoscopic Surgery).

Protected node profile of Tries [PDF]

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics & Theoretical Computer Science, 2018
In a rooted tree, protected nodes are neither leaves nor parents of any leaves. They have some practical motivations, e.g., in organizational schemes, security models and social-network models.

Infinite Systems of Functional Equations and Gaussian Limiting Distributions [PDF]

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics & Theoretical Computer Science, 2012
In this paper infinite systems of functional equations in finitely or infinitely many random variables arising in combinatorial enumeration problems are studied. We prove sufficient conditions under which the combinatorial random variables encoded in the

Minimal and maximal plateau lengths in Motzkin paths [PDF]

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics & Theoretical Computer Science, 2007
The minimal length of a plateau (a sequence of horizontal steps, preceded by an up- and followed by a down-step) in a Motzkin path is known to be of interest in the study of secondary structures which in turn appear in mathematical biology. We will treat

Infrared Small Target Detection Based on Singularity Analysis and Constrained Random Walker

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing, 2023
Effective infrared small target detection is still challenging due to small target sizes and the clutter in the background. Unfortunately, many advanced methods do not perform well in preserving and detecting multiscale objects in complex scenes.

Distances in random Apollonian network structures [PDF]

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics & Theoretical Computer Science, 2008
In this paper, we study the distribution of distances in random Apollonian network structures (RANS), a family of graphs which has a one-to-one correspondence with planar ternary trees. Using multivariate generating functions that express all information

A fluid mechanic’s analysis of the teacup singularity [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2020
The mechanism for singularity formation in an inviscid wall-bounded fluid flow is investigated. The incompressible Euler equations are numerically simulated in a cylindrical container. The flow is axisymmetric with the swirl. The simulations reproduce and corroborate aspects of prior studies reporting strong evidence for a finite-time singularity.

Geometric algebra approach to analyzing the singularity of six-DOF parallel mechanism

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2019
Singular configurations must be avoided in the practical manipulation of parallel mechanism. This paper presents an approach of singularities analysis of six degrees of freedom (DOF) parallel mechanism applying geometric algebra.

Singularity Analysis for the Existing Closed-Form Solutions of the Hand-Eye Calibration

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
In this paper, a class of singular phenomenon is first found for the existing closed-form solutions of the hand-eye calibration problem with the form AiX = XBi when the angles corresponding to rotational parts of Ai and Bi are near or equal to π ...
