Quark confinement by infrared singularities
Physical Review D, 1978Confinement of spin-1/2 quarks by an infrared-singular effective gluon propagator is shown to work in three space dimensions. The exact infrared behavior of the quark propagator is isolated. In the infrared limit the propagator vanishes as the pole moves to infinite energy.

The Singularity and the Familiarity of Solitary Confinement
SSRN Electronic Journal, 2019More than 60,000 people are held in solitary confinement in U.S. prisons. This essay explores the ways in which solitary confinement is distinctive and yet also is a familiar feature of U.S. prisons. To do so, I track the expansion of solitary confinement, analyze the debate in federal courts about its lawfulness, and provide recent data on its ...

Confinement of three quarks by infrared singularities
Physical Review D, 1979An infrared-divergent interaction previously shown to lead to confinement in the quark-antiquark bound-state problem is used in the three-quark problem. Once again the divergent quark self-energy is canceled by the binding energy, leading to a finite Bethe-Salpeter bound-state equation, only in a color-singlet state.

Confinement and complex singularities in three-dimensional QED
Physical Review D, 1995The standard approximations of the Dyson-Schwinger equation lead to complex singularities of the fermion propagator. In three-dimensional QED one can show that this phenomenon might be related to confinement: a confining potential leads to masslike singularities at complex momenta, and thus to the absence of a mass singularity on the real timelike axis.

Confinement singularities in two-pion decays of mesons
Physics of Atomic Nuclei, 2010We consider as an example the two-pion decay of the ρ meson, the 3 S 1 q $$ \bar q $$ state of the constituent quarks—the decay being determined by the transition q

Stress singularities in confined thermocapillary convection
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2000Axisymmetric thermocapillary convection is studied in a laterally heated liquid bridge. In this configuration, as in other wall-confined thermocapillary convection problems, a viscous singularity appears at the junction of the free and solid surfaces which any numerical approach of the problem must filter, either explicitly by smoothing the boundary ...

Singular Phonons in a Helically Confined Degenerate Quantum Gas.
Frontiers in Optics 2015, 2015The elementary excitations in ultracold quantum gas within helical optical potential produced by vortices with high angular momenta are considered via linearized Gross-Pitaevskii equation. The dispersion law is obtained.
