Computer simulation of sintering processes

A numerical procedure is described for simulating sintering of model systems. Based on earlier work by Nichols for surface diffusion transport, simultaneously acting mechanisms (surface and grainboundary diffusion) are treated without simplifying assumptions concerning the neck geometry developed during sintering.

Dislocation Activated Sintering Processes

Using sphere-plate models made from copper it is shown that during sintering the dislocation density increases considerably in the contact region. Its distribution and time dependent variation can be analysed by means of the Rossel technique and described quantitatively.

Volumetric Analysis of a Sinter Process in Time

We present the first fully three dimensional analysis of the sinter process of copper using particles of a realistic size. This has been made possible through the use of μCT. A 3D image processing chain, applied to each time step of this 4D dataset, followed by image registration and particle matching steps was used.
