Sinus Bradycardia in Habitual Cocaine Users

The American Journal of Cardiology, 2017
Common physiological manifestations of cocaine are related to its adrenergic effects, due to inhibition of dopamine and norepinephrine uptake at the postsynaptic terminal. Few studies have documented bradycardia secondary to cocaine use, representing the antithesis of its adrenergic effects.

Bradycardia: sinus and AV node dysfunction

Herzschrittmachertherapie + Elektrophysiologie, 2015
The surface electrocardiogram (ECG) holds many clues with regard to the etiology of bradycardia and site of atrioventricular (AV) block. Bedside maneuvers may prove helpful in cases of 2:1 AV block or situations where the data is not all concordant. Wenckebach conduction may occur in any region of the heart, and there are nonpathologic mimickers of ...

SINUS BRADYCARDIA IN ACUTE RHEUMATIC FEVER

Annals of Internal Medicine, 1952
Excerpt INTRODUCTION Sinus tachycardia is widely recognized as one of the classic features of active rheumatic fever, but the fact that an abnormally slow heart rate is often present during the acu...

Symptomatic 5‐fluorouracil‐induced sinus bradycardia

Internal Medicine Journal, 2011
Abstract5‐Fluorouracil (5‐FU) is a commonly used anti‐neoplastic agent. 5‐FU has been not uncommonly associated with cardiotoxicity, although the many potentially causative mechanisms are yet to be established. Here, we present the case of a 61‐year‐old gemstone miner who developed symptomatic sinus bradycardia while receiving a continuous 5‐FU ...

Sinus bradycardia related to temporomandibular joint surgery

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1991
The carotid artery lies in close relationship to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Manipulation of the mandible during TMJ surgery has been observed in several cases to be directly associated with the development of sinus bradycardia as the joint is distracted during arthrotomy and arthroplasty procedures.

Sinus Bradycardia After Intravenous Pulse Methylprednisolone

Pediatrics, 2007
High-dose intravenous pulse methylprednisolone is an important therapeutic modality for many autoimmune conditions in both children and adults. Adverse effects of this therapy include hypertension, hyperglycemia, and, in children, behavioral changes. Cardiac rhythm disturbances, both tachyarrhythmias and bradyarrhythmias, have been reported in adults ...

Fetal sinus bradycardia and the long QT syndrome

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 2001
Recent evidence in literature shows that the long QT syndrome accounts for a fraction of the sudden infant death syndrome. Newborn infants with prolongation of the Q-T interval often show sinus bradycardia, which led us to test whether children who were diagnosed with long QT syndrome also show sinus bradycardia in the cardiotocogram before birth. We ...

Sinus bradycardia during injections directly into the sinus node artery

American Journal of Physiology-Legacy Content, 1963
In over 90% of 800 experiments in 75 dogs injection directly into the sinus node artery produced sinus bradycardia. Studies to explain this phenomenon included control of temperature, pH, osmolarity, oxygen, and ionic content of injecting solutions. Although unphysiologic variations of any of these are known to produce marked alterations in the sinus ...

Electrophysiologic effects of oral theophylline in sinus bradycardia

The American Journal of Cardiology, 1990
Abstract Theophylline is commonly used in the treatment of bronchial obstruction. In experimental studies the drug showed positive chronotropic effects. 1,2 During long-term therapy, oral theophylline suppressed symptoms in young patients with paroxysmal bradyarrhythmias 3 ; moreover, it diminished the frequency and severity of bradycardia in ...
