MELAS‐Like Mitochondrial Encephalopathy With Catatonia Associated With a Pathogenic MT‐ND3 (m.10158 T > C) Mutation: A Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesProgress in Neurology and Psychiatry, Volume 30, Issue 2, May 2026.
Abstract Mitochondrial Encephalomyopathy, Lactic Acidosis, and Stroke‐like episodes (MELAS) is a rare multisystem mitochondrial disorder primarily caused by mutations in mitochondrial DNA. While it typically presents with stroke‐like episodes, seizures, and lactic acidosis, recent evidence highlights a broader clinical spectrum, including ...

Colorectal Cancer Complicated by Pulmonary Embolism and Potential Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy in a Person With Cystic Fibrosis: Diagnostic and Management Considerations

open access: yesRespirology Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 5, May 2026.
We describe a complex case of pulmonary embolism and dilated cardiomyopathy in a person with cystic fibrosis. These late complications occurred following laparoscopic left hemicolectomy for colonic adenocarcinoma. This case highlights the complexities of evaluating breathlessness in severe lung disease, and the management challenges that arise as life ...

Acute tetraparesis in a labrador retriever with suspected ectopic insulinoma and paraneoplastic polyneuropathy

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 2, May 2026.
Summary This case report describes a 10‐year‐old, male, neutered labrador retriever that was presented with acute non‐ambulatory tetraparesis, later diagnosed with an ectopic insulinoma and paraneoplastic polyneuropathy. Clinical evaluation revealed severe hypoglycaemia, generalised neuromuscular signs and electromyography findings were consistent with

Acetylcholine From Solitary Chemosensory Cell, Not Neuron, Regulates Basal Cell Fate Driving Eosinophilic Chronic Rhinosinusitis With Nasal Polyps

open access: yesAllergy, Volume 81, Issue 5, Page 1617-1634, May 2026.
This study identifies that Ach levels are elevated in eCRSwNP and primarily released from SCCs rather than neurons. Ach induces epithelial remodeling in eCRSwNP by binding to M1R/M3R and activating YAP signaling in basal cells, driving basal cell hyperplasia and abnormal differentiation. Blocking M1R/M3R with TB inhibits eCRSwNP progression.
