Severity of tricuspid regurgitation predicts risk of recurrence of atrial fibrillation after pulmonary vein isolation

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims Tricuspid regurgitation (TR) results in right atrial remodelling, thus promoting the formation of a substrate for atrial fibrillation (AF). In turn, AF may cause TR by annulus dilatation. We investigated whether the presence of TR affects the efficacy of pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) for AF. Methods and results In patients undergoing PVI,

Microvolt T‐wave alternans in early repolarization syndrome associated with ventricular arrhythmias: A case report

open access: yesAnnals of Noninvasive Electrocardiology, Volume 28, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
Microvolt T‐wave alternans (MTWA) is a marker for the development of ventricular arrhythmias (VA), but its role in early repolarization (ER) syndrome remains unknown. MTWA was detected in a 90‐second 6‐lead electrocardiogram from an ER syndrome patient. On average, MTWA was 50 μV, higher than what was observed on healthy subjects.

Computerized electrocardiogram data transformation enables effective algorithmic differentiation of wide QRS complex tachycardias

open access: yesAnnals of Noninvasive Electrocardiology, Volume 28, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
Accurate automatic wide QRS complex tachycardia (WCT) differentiation may be accomplished through the use of novel parameters derived from computerized data of the (i) WCT electrocardiogram (ECG) alone and (ii) paired WCT and baseline ECGs. Once automated WCT differentiation models are integrated into commercially available computerized ECG ...

Cardioverting acute atrial fibrillation and the risk of thromboembolism: not all patients are created equal [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Current guidelines support the well-established clinical practice that patients who present with atrial fibrillation (AF) of less than 48 hours duration should be considered for cardioversion, even in the absence of pre-existing anticoagulation. However,

Health‐related quality of life across heart failure categories: associations with clinical characteristics and outcomes

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims The study aims to examine characteristics and outcomes associated with health‐related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with heart failure (HF) with preserved, mildly reduced and reduced ejection fraction (EF) (HFpEF, HFmrEF and HFrEF). Methods and results Data on HRQoL were collected in the Swedish Heart Failure Registry (SwedeHF; 2000–

Confirm Rx insertable cardiac monitor for primary atrial fibrillation detection in high‐risk heart failure patients (Confirm‐AF trial)

open access: yesAnnals of Noninvasive Electrocardiology, Volume 28, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
Confirm‐AF is a prospective randomized, nonblinded, two arm, multicenter clinical trial, which will enroll 477 patients with a history of HF hospitalization and left ventricular ejection fraction >35% from 30 medical sites. Patients will be randomized in a 2:1 fashion to receive an implantable cardiac monitor (ICM) with remote monitoring and symptom ...

Propafenone in restoring sinus rhythm among patients with persistent atrial fibrillation. PROMETEY – an open, multicenter, pilot study performed in the Russian Federation

open access: yesКардиоваскулярная терапия и профилактика, 2005
Aim. To study efficacy and safety of propafenone (loading single dose of 600 mg per os) in treating atrial fibrillation (AF) paroxysms. Material and methods. The study included 233 patients with persistent AF, aged 31-62 (mean age 57.6 ± 2.8 years), from

INFLUENCE OF antiarrhythmic THERAPY ON DIASTOLIC FUNCTION OF THE LEFT VENTRICULAR MYOCARDIUM and QUALITY OF LIFE in PATIENTS WITH HYPERTENSION COMPLICATED BY PAROXySMAL atrial FIBRILLATION

open access: yesСибирский научный медицинский журнал, 2019
Objective: to assess the effect of propafenone and amiodarone on the diastolic function of the left ventricle and the quality of life in hypertension complicated by paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) in patients with sinus rhythm remaining throughout ...

Smartphone-based paroxysmal atrial fibrillation monitoring with robust generalization [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Atrial fibrillation is increasingly prevalent, especially in the elderly, and challenging to detect due paroxysmal nature. Here, we propose novel computational methods based on heart beat intervals to facilitate rapid and robust discrimination between atrial fibrillation and sinus rhythm.
