EFFECTIVENESS OF UNIPOLAR RADIOFREQUENCY SURGICAL ABLATION FOR ATRIAL FIBRILLATION
Aim. To verify the effectiveness of surgical ablation for atrial fibrillation by irrigated unipolar radiofrequency, applied to both atria, for the reversal and maintenance of the sinus rhythm in the short and medium term in patients undergoing ...

Myocardial Architecture and Patient Variability in Clinical Patterns of Atrial Fibrillation [PDF]
Atrial fibrillation (AF) increases the risk of stroke by a factor of four to five and is the most common abnormal heart rhythm. The progression of AF with age, from short self-terminating episodes to persistence, varies between individuals and is poorly ...

Synchronization‐Dissipation in the Cardiorespiratory System
By modeling central nervous coupling and viscoelastic interactions in the cardiorespiratory system we show that synchronization produces a 10% gain in cardiac efficiency in humans. It is surmised that respiratory sinus arrhythmia improves cardiac pumping efficiency by reducing dynamic stress and power dissipation in the pulmonary vasculature.

A case report of cardiogenic syncope in the adolescent.
The article presents authors’ observation of a clinical case of the girl aged 15 years old with cardiogenic syncope due to sick sinus syndrome, which progressed from normocardia sinus rhythm to pauses of the cardiac rhythm lasting 10.2-second during 3 ...

Clinical and Procedural Effects of Transitioning to Contact Force Guided Ablation for Atrial Fibrillation. [PDF]
Background: A major innovation in atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation has been the introduction of contact force (CF) sensing catheters. Objective: To evaluate procedural and clinical effects of transitioning to CF-guided AF ablation.

Catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation : radiofrequency catheter ablation for redo procedures after cryoablation [PDF]
Aim: To evaluate the effectiveness of two different strategies using radiofrequency catheter ablation for redo procedures after cryoablation of atrial fibrillation. Methods: Thirty patients (paroxysmal atrial fibrillation: 22 patients, persistent atrial

The study elucidates that paternal preconception stress can drive offspring hyperresponsivity of the stress system via hypomethylation of a specific DNA region in sperm. This key link is confirmed in a cohort of prospective fathers: the epigenetic alteration is associated with elevated stress hormone levels.

Spontaneous Pothole Cardioversion of a Wide Complex Tachycardia
External mechanical forces, if properly timed and of sufficient energy, have rarely been reported to convert tachyarrhythmias to sinus rhythm. We report a case of a patient with a wide-complex tachycardia that spontaneously converted to sinus rhythm ...

Comparison of the Relationship Between Inflammatory Markers and Atrial Fibrillation Burden
Background: Atrial fibrillation is a complex disease with irregular ventricular response and tachycardia as a result of irregular and rapid contraction of the atria, with poor cardiovascular outcomes unless treated. Various mechanisms are involved in its

Cardioverting acute atrial fibrillation and the risk of thromboembolism: not all patients are created equal [PDF]
Current guidelines support the well-established clinical practice that patients who present with atrial fibrillation (AF) of less than 48 hours duration should be considered for cardioversion, even in the absence of pre-existing anticoagulation. However,
