Beyond the Highlands: Climate Drives Evolutionary Connections Between Ancient Neotropical Mountains and Lowland Biomes

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Biogeography, Volume 35, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim The assembly of montane plant communities through time is underlain by historical and abiotic factors. However, the extent of evolutionary connectivity between ancient highland ecosystems and surrounding lowlands remains unclear. Here, we investigate the evolutionary connections between the campos rupestres, a hyperdiverse and fragmented ...

Flooding in the Tamanduateí River Hydrographic Basin: A Spatial and Multifactorial Analysis

open access: yesTransactions in GIS, Volume 30, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Understanding the occurrence of urban floods and their conditioning factors is essential for effective management of urban watersheds. However, few studies have explored the spatial variability of these factors in detail. This study investigates the spatial relationships between conditioning factors and flood occurrences in the Tamanduateí ...

Effects of Land Use and Environmental Characteristics on Condition Factor and Reproductive Aspects of Serrapinnus notomelas (Brazil)

open access: yesAquatic Conservation: Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems, Volume 35, Issue 8, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Changes in land use and land cover severely impact the ecological structure of aquatic ecosystems and can lead to losses in fish populations. To further examine the cause and effect, the present study aimed to evaluate (1) differences in land use and cover among subbasins of the Vacaria, Brilhante, Dourados and Lower Ivinhema Rivers, (2 ...

Between dunes and estuary: Forecasting mangrove forest change on primate culture and isolated livelihoods in Maranhão, Brazil

open access: yesGeo: Geography and Environment, Volume 12, Issue 2, July‐December 2025.
Short Abstract The unique ecological conditions of the mangrove forests in the Rio Preguiças Estuary, Maranhão, Brazil, support a culturally isolated population of bearded capuchin monkeys and contribute significantly to the livelihoods and economy of the local community.

Impact of the extreme 2015-2016 ENOS event on the geometry of the earth surface in the equatorial region of South America [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020

From Disturbance to Recovery: Unveiling the Role of Goats and Ecological Drivers on Vegetation Dynamics of Trindade Island, South Atlantic, Brazil

open access: yesJournal of Vegetation Science, Volume 36, Issue 3, May/June 2025.
We analyzed long‐term vegetation dynamics on Trindade Island, assessing the influence of feral goats and abiotic factors using remote sensing and field data. Vegetation cover increased over time, with forests and grasslands expanding. NDVI effectively captured these changes, revealing strong biotic and abiotic interactions.

The GrassSyn dataset: Soil organic carbon stocks in Brazilian grassy ecosystems

open access: yesJournal of Environmental Quality, Volume 54, Issue 2, Page 335-348, March/April 2025.
Abstract Although ecosystem management and restoration are known to enhance carbon storage, limited knowledge of ecosystem‐specific soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks and processes hinders the development of climate‐ready, biodiversity‐focused policies. Baseline SOC stocks data for specific ecosystems is essential.
