The effect of alkaline and silane treatments on mechanical properties and breakage of sisal fibers and poly(lactic acid)/sisal fiber composites

Composites Part A: Applied Science and Manufacturing, 2016
Abstract The main goals of this work were to study the effect of different chemical treatments on sisal fiber bundles tensile properties as well as on tensile properties of composites based on poly(lactic acid) (PLA) matrix and sisal fibers. For this purpose, sisal fibers were treated with different chemical treatments.

Some structural aspects of sisal fibers

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1976
A critical account has been presented of the recent investigation on the chemical modification of lignocellulosic sisal fibers. The molecular structure of the paracrystalline cellulose, which forms the major constituent of the fiber, was studied by x-ray diffraction technique.

Sisal and Henequen as Binder-Twine Fibers

1919
Excerpts: During the year 1917 more than 100,000,000 acres were planted in the, United Stales to the small-grain crops, wheat, oats, barley, rye, and rice. The total production of these crops amounted approximately to two and one-half billions of bushels, the greater part of which was harvested with harvesting machines.

Behavior of polyolefin blends with acetylated sisal fibers

Polymer International, 2000
The influence of acetylation on the mechanical, thermal and thermodegradative behavior of sisal fiber-reinforced PP, PP/HDPE and PP/HDPE with functionalized and non-functionalized EPR composites was studied. Acetylation of the fiber improves adhesion of the fiber to the polyolefin matrix.

Sisal Fiber Based Polymer Composites and Their Applications

2011
The natural resources of the World are depleting very fast due to the high rate of exploitation and low rate of restoration, leading to an increase in global warming and pollution hazards. In recent years, there has been increasing interest in the substitution of synthetic fibers in reinforced plastic composites by natural plant fibers such as jute ...
