Pada ikan, respon otot sering menghasilkan gerakan seluruh tubuh. Sistem saraf dibagi menjadi dua sistem berdasarkan pengendaliannya, yaitu sistem serebrospinal dan sistem otonomik. Saraf terdiri dari sel-sel yang disebut neuron. Sel terdiri dari badan sel dilengkapi dengan inti sel, dan proyeksi plasma dari dua atau lebih badan sel.
