Chloramine-induced sister-chromatid exchanges
Mutation Research Letters, 1987Nitrogen-chlorine (N-Cl) derivatives are a class of long-lived oxidants produced by stimulated phagocytes which may be important mediators of the inflammatory response. Because other phagocyte-generated oxidants cause genetic damage in cultured mammalian cells, we studied the ability of the synthetic N-Cl compound, chloramine T (Cl-T), to produce ...

Sister chromatid exchanges in leukemic patients
Cancer Genetics and Cytogenetics, 1985Sister chromatid exchange (SCE) was studied in PHA-stimulated peripheral blood lymphocytes from 36 newly diagnosed and untreated leukemic patients: 16 with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), 10 with acute nonlymphocytic leukemia (ANLL), and 10 with chronic myelocytic leukemia (CML). The metaphases analyzed show no chromosomal abnormalities.

Electron microscopy of sister chromatid exchanges
Cytogenetic and Genome Research, 1983BrdU-substituted chromosomes of Don cells were differentially stained with ammoniacal silver carbonate and analyzed by electron microscopy. The results obtained led us to the following conclusions: (1) the differential impregnation of BrdU-substituted chromatids with silver is mainly due to a preferential extraction of non-histone proteins caused by UV-

Sister chromatid exchange in aplastic anemia
Cancer Genetics and Cytogenetics, 1981The incidence of sister chromatid exchanges (SCE) in the lymphocytes of patients with aplastic anemia (AA) was determined before and after exposure to mitomycin C (MMC). The "baseline" SCE rate was significantly higher in AA, but MMC-induced SCE rate was not different compared to controls.

Midsegmental exchanges between sister chromatids
Medical Hypotheses, 1991The model for SCE, proposed by (1), is adapted to the exchange of one or more segments located midway along the chromatid axis. In spite of conflicts in the handedness of these midsegments, the model accounts for the undistorted stacking of both sister chromatids.

Sister chromatid exchange and nasopharyngeal carcinoma
International Journal of Cancer, 1989AbstractSister chromatid exchange (SCE) is a genetic indicator of DNA damage in mammalian cells and may afford a sensitive monitor to follow genomic instability of some individuals with fragile chromosomal diseases or malignancies. In studies on the effect of dinitrosopiperazine (DNP), aflatoxin BI (AFBI), methyl‐nitro‐nitroso‐guanidine (MNNG) and ...

Molecular mechanisms of sister-chromatid exchange
Mutation Research - Fundamental and Molecular Mechanisms of Mutagenesis, 2007Sister-chromatid exchange (SCE) is the process whereby, during DNA replication, two sister chromatids break and rejoin with one another, physically exchanging regions of the parental strands in the duplicated chromosomes. This process is considered to be conservative and error-free, since no information is generally altered during reciprocal ...

Sister chromatid exchange and gene mutation
Cytogenetic and Genome Research, 1982The parallel induction of sister chromatid exchange (SCE) and single-gene mutation was quantified in Chinese hamster ovary cells following exposure to nine different physical or chemical agents representing a wide variety of inducing lesions. For each agent, the frequency of induced SCE was linearly related to the induction of mutation, but the ...

The Sister Chromatid Exchange (SCE) Assay
2014A fully optimized staining method for detecting sister chromatid exchanges in cultured cells is presented. The method gives reproducibly robust quantitative results. Sister chromatid exchange is a classic toxicology assay for genotoxicity and for detecting alterations to the biochemistry underlying cellular homologous recombination.
