Electron transfer between complexes III and IV in S. cerevisiae mitochondrial membranes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation in S. cerevisiae mitoplasts is limited by complex IV catalytic capacity, rather than two‐dimensional cytochrome c diffusion. At physiological cytochrome c : supercomplex ratios at salinity equivalent to that of 20 mm monovalent salt, activity is maximized, indicating that this low ionic strength accurately mimics

Preventing and treating surgical site infection in patients with spinal metastatic disease

open access: yes, 2013
Surgery to remove secondary spinal tumours is often necessary to relieve symptoms associated with metastatic spinal cord compression (MSCC). However, such individuals are at high risk of surgical site infection (SSI).

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

A Simple Site-specific Method for Estimating Nonlinear Site Effects

open access: yes, 2018
神奈川大学博士(工学)Thesis or DissertationIt has long been recognized that site effects should be considered in the seismic design of structures. Generally, there are two categories of methods for estimating site effects for design purpose, namely: empirical and ...

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Phosphoinositides and inositol phosphates as molecular glues

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol phosphates (IPs) and phosphoinositides (PIPs) regulate diverse eukaryotic processes. Beyond recruiting signaling proteins or acting as structural cofactors, recent studies suggest they mediate protein–protein interactions as natural molecular glues.

Effect of site of insemination on bovine fertility

open access: yesEurasian Journal of Veterinary Sciences, 1997
Effect ol site ol semen deposition on pregnancy rates ol artificially inseminated cattle were investigated. A total of 100 animals. 82 cows and 18 heifers, were divided into four groups and inseminated by depositing semen into corpus or cervix of the uterus or ipsi-or contralateral horn to the Graffian follicle. Pregnancy rales were 88, 72. 84 and 72 %,

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Modeling Site Specific Heterogeneity in an On-Site Stratified Random Sample of Recreational Demand

open access: yes
Using estimation of demand for the George Washington/Jefferson National Forest as a case study, it is shown that in a stratified/clustered on-site sample, latent heterogeneity needs to be accounted for twice: first to account for dispersion in the data ...
