An integrated baseline assessment of reef-associated sharks around Saba (Dutch Caribbean), combining three methods: stereo-BRUVs, telemetry and citizen science

open access: yesRoyal Society Open Science
The Exclusive Economic Zone of Saba (Dutch Windward Islands) has been designated Yarari Marine Mammal and Shark Sanctuary. However, to effectively conserve sharks, a baseline on their diversity and spatiotemporal distribution is required.

Electro‐Active Polymer Actuated Microfiltration Membranes: Design, Performance, and Particle Dynamics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The concept of foulant particle manipulation and detachment from active microfiltration membranes via voltage‐driven vibrations is introduced. Actuator components are initially integrated onto the filtration membranes using an airbrush spray printing technique.

Selection Strategies for Flexible Pressure Sensor Electrode Materials Toward Ultrafast Response

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study reveals, for the first time, how the electrode–organic interface governs the temporal performance of flexible pressure sensors. By pairing high‐conductivity CVD PEDOT with commonly used metal electrodes, the authors demonstrate that interfacial energy alignment dictates microsecond‐scale response, providing a straightforward design strategy ...

Adaptive 4D‐Printed Vascular Stents With Low‐Temperature‐Activated and Intelligent Deployment

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Microarchitected coronary artery stents were fabricated using a polycaprolactone (PCL)‐based shape memory polymer (SMP) composite via projection micro‐stereolithography (PµSL) 4D printing. By incorporating diethyl phthalate (DEP) as a plasticizer, the thermal transition temperature (Ttran) was modulated to about 37°C, enabling rapid and autonomous ...

Electron–Matter Interactions During Electron Beam Nanopatterning

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This article reviews the electron–matter interactions important to nanopatterning with electron beam lithography (EBL). Electron–matter interactions, including secondary electron generation routes, polymer radiolysis, and electron beam induced charging, are discussed.

eIF1 and eIF5 dynamically control translation start site fidelity

open access: yesNature Structural & Molecular Biology
ABSTRACTTranslation initiation defines the identity of a synthesized protein through selection of a translation start site on a messenger RNA. This process is essential to well-controlled protein synthesis, modulated by stress responses, and dysregulated in many human diseases. The eukaryotic initiation factors eIF1 and eIF5 interact with the initiator
