Comparison of nonchemical, organic and synthetic Varroa destructor control strategies in honey bee colonies: effects on parasite load, colony strength and health

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Combining intensive drone‐brood removal with brood interruption provided the most effective and consistent seasonal Varroa control. Abstract BACKGROUND Varroa destructor remains the most significant biotic threat to honey bee colonies, and increasing resistance to synthetic acaricides necessitates alternative control strategies.

Automatic insect identification, counting, and monitoring techniques: a review

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Automated insect monitoring increasingly integrates optical, acoustic, infrared, radar, electrostatic, and biosensing technologies with artificial intelligence. No single approach is universally optimal; reliable deployment depends on task‐specific validation, representative datasets, robustness under field conditions, energy autonomy, connectivity ...

Prevalence and drivers of ectoparasite abundance on Norway rats (Rattus norvegicus) in New York City residential complexes

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Norway rat ectoparasite burden varied by residential microhabitat, host traits, and trap type, showing that urban rodent management should address both rat burden and ectoparasite persistence in residential buildings. Abstract BACKGROUND Norway rats, Rattus norvegicus (Berkenhout), can carry ectoparasites of public health importance.

Persistence of seed‐applied pesticides in soybeans: environmental influences and implications for crop protection

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Early soybean planting in cool, wet soils slows emergence and results in about half the insecticide and fungicide concentrations at vegetative emergence compared with standard planting, where faster emergence maintains roughly double the pesticide concentrations, yet pesticide persistence remains similar across both planting dates.

Identification, quantification, and management of human health risks from long‐distance pesticide transport

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Pesticides can move through air, water, and global trade networks after application, exposing populations far from the original source, while most risk assessments and regulations still treat pesticide exposure as a local problem. This perspective offers a new framework to define, trace, and quantify long‐distance pesticide risk across connected ...
