Effects of hydroxamic acids on the resistance of wheat to the aphid Sitobion avenae

Annals of Applied Biology, 1986
SUMMARYResistance to the aphid Sitobion avenae F. was assessed on six wheat cultivars of known concentrations of total hydroxamic acids. A range of values for intrinsic rate of increase (rm) were obtained, 96% of the variation in which was explained by acid concentrations.

Feeding behaviour of the aphid Sitobion avenae on resistant and susceptible wheat

1992
The English grain aphid Sitobion avenae F. has sporadical outbreaks causing yield losses of up to 10% in Northern Europe, and is one of the important vectors of Barley Yellow Dwarf virus (BYDV). Numerous tests have been done on wheat genotypes to assess their potential resistance to aphids.

Toxic and deterrent effects of phytohemagglutinin on the grain aphid Sitobion avenae

Biologia, 2013
The toxicity and deterrent effects of phytoheamagglutinin (Phaseolus vulgaris agglutinin, PHA) to the grain aphid (Sitobion avenae F.) was investigated in the laboratory by use of liquid diets or gels containing various PHA concentrations. The addition of PHA to the liquid diet increased the aphid pre-reproductive period, mortality, and generation time

An investigation of the differential performance of clones of the aphid Sitobion avenae on two host species

Oecologia, 1995
Individuals of the grain aphid Sitobion avenae were collected from wheat and cocksfoot stands around Hampshire, UK, during March and April 1994. Eight wheat and eight cocksfoot aphid clones were chosen on the basis of readily distinguishable RAPD-PCR fingerprint profiles.

Coexistence in space and time of sexual and asexual populations of the cereal aphid Sitobion avenae

Oecologia, 2001
Aphids typically reproduce by cyclical parthenogenesis, with a single sexual generation alternating with numerous asexual generations each year. However, some species exhibit different life cycle variants with various degrees of investment in sexuality.
