Situational Disabilities in Information Systems for Situational Awareness in Flood Situations in Nigeria

open access: yes, 2023
Floods are one of the major natural disasters that contribute to the high disaster death rate in the global south, especially in Nigeria. This requires an effort of collaboration from all stakeholders in designing, building, deploying, and maintaining inclusive disaster management systems.

European Standard Clinical Practice Guideline and EXPeRT Recommendations for the Diagnosis and Management of Gastroenteropancreatic Neuroendocrine Neoplasms in Children and Adolescents

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Pediatric gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (GEP‐NENs) are extremely rare and clinically heterogeneous. Management has largely been extrapolated from adult practice. This European Standard Clinical Practice Guideline (ESCP), developed by the EXPeRT network in collaboration with adult NEN experts, provides (adult) evidence ...

Situations and intervals [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 25th annual meeting on Association for Computational Linguistics -, 1987
The PUNDIT system processes natural language descriptions of situations and the intervals over which they hold using an algorithm that integrates aspect and tense logic. It analyses the tense and aspect of the main verb to generate representations of three types of situations---states, processes and events---and to locate the situations with respect to

Time Toxicity in Wilms Tumor: Quantifying the Burden of Healthcare Interaction in the First Year After Diagnosis

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Wilms tumor (WT) treatment imposes a significant time burden on patients and their families. Time toxicity is a patient‐centered metric that quantifies the burden of healthcare interaction. We sought to define time toxicity in the first year after diagnosis of WT and hypothesized that it would increase as tumor stage and treatment ...

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Situation awareness measurement: A review of applicability for C4i environments

open access: yes, 2006
The construct of situation awareness (SA) has become a core theme within the human factors (HF) research community. Consequently, there have been numerous attempts to develop reliable and valid measures of SA but there is a lack of techniques developed ...

Mapping Brain Activity During Loss of Situation Awareness: an EEG investigation of a basis for top-down influence on perception [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Objective: The objective was to map brain activity during early intervals in loss of Situation Awareness (SA) to examine any co-activity in visual and high-order regions, reflecting grounds for top-down influences on level 1 SA.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Towards Template-based Situation Recognition

open access: yes, 2009
The process of tracking and identifying developing situations is an ability of importance within the surveillance domain. We refer to this as situation recognition and believe that it can enhance situation awareness for decision makers.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.
