Situational Variability of Experiential and Rational Information-Processing Styles in Stressful Situations

European Journal of Psychological Assessment, 2009
In this study, we investigated the reliability and validity of the Perceived Modes of Processing Inventory (PMPI) by Burns and D’Zurilla, which measures two types of information processing, experiential and rational. We administered the dispositional and situation-specific format of the PMPI to a sample of 64 eating-disorder (ED) patients.

Latent Variable Modeling of Person-Situation Data

2017
The chapter provides a comprehensive overview of classical approaches and recent advances in the latent variable modeling of person-situation data. It begins by reviewing the key concepts of latent state-trait (LST) theory (Steyer, Ferring & Schmitt, 1992; Steyer, Mayer, Geiser, & Cole, 2015), which is a measurement theory for measuring persons

Locus of Control as a Personality and Situational Variable

Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1968
Previous studies of the personality variable, locus of control (LC), have focused on the relationship between LC and chance versus skilled performance. This study examined the interaction between LC and an experimental task which elicited in Ss differential levels of control as a subjectively felt state.

Situational variability in boys and girls identified as ADHD

Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1990
The present investigation (N = 60) examined HSQ and SSQ (Home Situations Questionnaire/School Situations Questionnaire) protocols across individual items and recently developed factoral dimensions. The purpose was to assess the degree to which situational variability in behavior may prove sensitive to sex differences in ADHD children.

Passionate Experiences in Adolescence: Situational Variability and Long‐Term Stability

Journal of Research on Adolescence, 2016
This study investigates adolescents' situational passionate experiences, defined as states of strong commitment and intense affect. We examine the extent to which experiencing passion was specific to situations versus individual differences, and explore which activities are likely to elicit adolescents' passion.

Effects of Situational Variables on Performance of Inbred Mice in Active- and Passive-Avoidance Situations

Psychological Reports, 1975
A group of experiments were conducted to assess the interaction between environmental factors and specific genetic loci upon the performance of mice in avoidance learning situations. The performance of all mice was better in passive-avoidance than in active-avoidance situations. The performance of C57BL/6J mice was generally superior to that of DBA/2J

Situational specificity and within‐setting validity variability

Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology, 1995
Ghiselli (1966) compiled the results of most of the published and unpublished studies on the validity of tests used to predict performance in different jobs. He found that observed validity coefficients vary considerably across studies even when jobs and tests appear to be very similar.

Effects of Disaster Situations on Macroeconomic Variables

1993
Abstract This chapter analyses the short- and medium-term effects of disaster situations on macroeconomic variables for a sample mainly of developing countries affected by large natural disasters between 1960 and 1979. Macroeconomic variables as measured by aggregate statistics per annum provide little insight into the particular ...

Situational Variables and Performance on Machover's Figure-Drawing Test

Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1972
Machover's figure-drawing test was administered to two groups of college students ( n = 295) to determine the influence of recent experience on test performance. Ss taking an introductory anthropology course drew significantly more “novel” figures than did Ss enrolled in introductory psychology.
