Body Size and Maturation in Mexico

1984
In Mexico, as in all underdeveloped countries, children and adults are smaller than those living in highly industrialized countries. This difference has been mainly attributed to less favourable living conditions prevailing in the former, although differences in the genetic constitution of populations have also been considered.

On Types of Sexual Maturity in Brachyurans, with Special Reference to Size at the Onset of Sexual Maturity

Journal of Shellfish Research, 2017
ABSTRACT Sexual maturity is an important phase of brachyuran's life cycle as it marks the transition of becoming an adult and the ability to reproduce. This article discussed on the types of sexual maturity found in brachyurans and the implication and application of size at the onset of sexual maturity (SOM) in general.

Effect of maturation on the relationship between physical performance and body size

Journal of Biomechanics, 2006
The purpose of the study was to explore the effect of maturation on the body size-physical performance relationship. Based on our previous study that evaluated only muscle strength, we hypothesized that the physical performance tested on pubescent subjects would be related to body size at a higher rate than predicted by standard scaling theory applied ...

Effect of Maturation on the Relationship between Muscle Size and Force Production

Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, 2008
Although it is well accepted that an increase in muscle size is linked to an increase in muscle force, the relationship between muscle size and maximal strength during maturation is still discussed. In the present study we aimed at determining whether maturation affects the relationship between muscle size and maximal strength, and we investigated the ...

Age and size at maturity in Indonesian women: A norm of reaction?

American Journal of Human Biology, 2014
ObjectivesWe test (McIntyre and Kacerosky's [2011]: Am J Hum Biol 23:305–312) prediction that the relationship between age at menarche and height switches from negative to positive, in a unidirectional and smooth manner, as the society industrializes.

Maturation of walleye by age, size and surplus energy

Journal of Fish Biology, 2002
The probability of annual sexual maturation by male and female walleye Stizostedion vitreum was related to age, size and an index of condition, IVF=[arcsine(visceral fat)0·5(body mass)−0·5]. Most males first matured at ages 2 and 3 years; size explained first maturation, but condition explained later maturation.

Size-dependent mortality causes divergent evolutionary responses in maturation size

2006
No abstracts are to be cited without prior reference to the author. The size of an individual, especially it size at maturation, influences both individual- and population-level characteristics. Body size is an important determinant of resource use, fecundity, and mortality risk. Maturation size affects spawning stock biomass.
