Effective population size [PDF]
What is it? An aid to calculation in population genetics, introduced by Sewall Wright. The rate of change of the genetic make-up of a population by genetic drift – fluctuations in allele frequencies caused by random sampling – is inversely related to the effective population size, Ne. Ne is measured with reference to an ideal ‘Wright–Fisher’ population.

Nanostructures of rare-earth metals in the coals of the shubarkol deposit
The rare metals of the Shubarkol coal deposit have a surface layer thickness of about 3 nm, i.e. are nanostructures. The thickness of the surface layer of the coal itself is of about 0,2 µm, i.e. it is a mesostructure.

Uticaj mesta ugradnje inercijalnog mernog bloka i akcelerometara na grešku u određivanju pozicije aviona / Size effect of the inertial measurement unit and inside IMU accelerometers on aircraft position error [PDF]

Responding to a related pair of measurements is often expressed as a single discrimination ratio. Authors have used various discrimination ratios; yet, little information exists to guide their choice. A second use of ratios is to correct for the influence of a nuisance variable on the measurement of interest.

The Effect of Projection on Derived Mass-Size and Linewidth-Size Relationships [PDF]
Power law mass-size and linewidth-size correlations, two of "Larson's laws," are often studied to assess the dynamical state of clumps within molecular clouds.

A finite-element approach to evaluating the size effects of complex nanostructures [PDF]
The size effects that reveal the dramatic changes of mechanical behaviour at nanoscales have traditionally been analysed for regular beam systems. Here, the method of using finite-element analysis is explored with the intention of evaluating the size ...

Constitutive Model of Thin Metal Sheet in Bulging Test Considering Strain Gradient Hardening
The study of the size effect was one of the most important subjects in the field of micro-forming. To investigate the stress of the thin sheet in the bulging test with the second order size effect, a constitutive equation considering the strain gradient ...

Slope Deflection Method in Nonlocal Axially Functionally Graded Tapered Beams
In this study, the slope deflection method was presented for structures made of small-scaled axially functionally graded beams with a variable cross section within the scope of nonlocal elasticity theory.

Carbon Supported Gold Nanoparticles for the Catalytic Reduction of 4-Nitrophenol
This work is a detailed study on how to optimize gold colloids preparation and their deposition to very different in nature carbon materials. The change of the continuous phase and its dielectric constant is used to assure the good dispersion of the ...
