Perception of off-sized objects1 [PDF]
Stimuli simulating familiar objects were viewed monocularly, one at a time, in an otherwise dark visual field. Thirty-two Os indicated the apparent size relative to the familiar size of the objects. Many of the objects appeared to be off-sized, i.e., larger or smaller than normal.

Venom peptides have shown promise in treating pain. Our study uses computer screening to identify a peptide that targets a sodium channel (NaV1.7) linked to chronic pain. We produced the peptide in the laboratory and refined its design, advancing the search for innovative pain therapies.

Modulating Fine Roughness Perception of Vibrotactile Textured Surface using Pseudo-haptic Effect [PDF]
Playing back vibrotactile signals through actuators is commonly used to simulate tactile feelings of virtual textured surfaces. However, there is often a small mismatch between the simulated tactile feelings and intended tactile feelings by tactile designers. Thus, a method of modulating the vibrotactile perception is required.

Large multidimensional digital images of cancer tissue are becoming prolific, but many challenges exist to automatically extract relevant information from them using computational tools. We describe publicly available resources that have been developed jointly by expert and non‐expert computational biologists working together during a virtual hackathon

The effect of inner elements of the context figures on the Ebbinghaus illusion [PDF]
In the Ebbinghaus illusion, the size of a figure is overestimated when it is surrounded by smaller figures and underestimated when it is surrounded by larger figures.

Chronic TGF‐β exposure drives epithelial HCC cells from a senescent state to a TGF‐β resistant mesenchymal phenotype. This transition is characterized by the loss of Smad3‐mediated signaling, escape from senescence, enhanced invasiveness and metastatic potential, and upregulation of key resistance modulators such as MARK1 and GRM8, ultimately promoting

Sexually size dimorphic brains and song complexity in passerine birds [PDF]
Neural correlates of bird song involve the volume of particular song nuclei in the brain that govern song development, production, and perception. Intra- and interspecific variation in the volume of these song nuclei are associated with overall brain ...

Interpretation of Tactile Sensation using an Anthropomorphic Finger Motion Interface to Operate a Virtual Avatar [PDF]
The objective of the system presented in this paper is to give users tactile feedback while walking in a virtual world through an anthropomorphic finger motion interface. We determined that the synchrony between the first person perspective and proprioceptive information together with the motor activity of the user's fingers are able to induce an ...
