Reproductive aspects of the Patagonian toothfish (Dissostichus eleginoides) off southern Chile Aspectos reproductivos del bacalao de profundidad (Dissostichus eleginoides) en el extremo austral de Chile

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Aquatic Research, 2009
We present the results for the reproductive biology of Patagonian toothfish (Dissostichus eleginoides) caught off southern Chile from January to March and June to November 2006.

Golgi enzymes are retrieved from the plasma membrane to the trans‐Golgi network

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Golgi enzymes are traditionally considered resident proteins retained within the Golgi apparatus. Here, we demonstrate that a subset transiently reaches the cell surface and is subsequently retrieved to the trans‐Golgi network via retrograde transport. Using a nanobody‐based toolkit, we uncover a dynamic trafficking cycle of several Golgi enzymes.

Switching Costs, Firm Size, and Market Structure [PDF]

open access: yes
In many markets homogenous goods are sold both by large global firms ("chain stores") and small local firms. Surprisingly, chain stores often charge higher prices. Examples include hotels, airlines, and coffe shops.

Edge and Size Effects in Micro Composite Structure

open access: yes, 2005
Because of the load transfer effect of interface layer, the stress distribution inside the composite structure of film/substrate can be very different from the Timoshenko's model.

Same Habitat, Different Responses: Population Dynamics of Two Sympatric Invader Corbicula Species

open access: yesBiology
Invasive species require long-term characterization of their shifting population dynamics to understand their environmental impacts and socio-economic effects.

Ligand‐dependent transcriptional heterogeneity in cell cycle gene expression delays G1/S entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
EGF and HRG induce distinct G1/S progression programs in ErbB2‐amplified BT474 breast cancer cells. Despite activating the potent ErbB2–ErbB3 heterodimer, HRG does not accelerate cell‐cycle entry. Instead, EGF promotes earlier restriction‐point passage via ERK–FOS signaling, whereas HRG activates the AKT–MYC axis, driving transcriptional heterogeneity ...

The effect of market size structure on competition: the case of small business lending [PDF]

open access: yes
Banking industry consolidation has raised concern about the supply of small business credit since large banks generally invest lower proportions of their assets in small business loans.

Defects in the grain interiors of 3 mol% yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystal ceramics with 0.25 wt% alumina

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Ceramics
The presence of high-density defects is rarely observed in bulk 3 mol% yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystal (3Y-TZP) ceramics obtained through conventional pressureless sintering.

On the relationships between size and abundance in plants: beyond forest communities

open access: yesEcosphere, 2019
The inverse relationship between size and abundance is a well‐documented pattern in forests, and the form of size–density relationships depends on the balance between growth and mortality rates in the community.

Synergistic perspectives—How single‐molecule biophysics complement biochemical understanding

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this review, we discuss how ensemble biochemistry and single‐molecule approaches are complementary, outline commonly used single‐molecule techniques, and illustrate their relevance through two representative case studies: chromatin organization by SMC complexes and pathway choice during DNA double‐strand break repair.
