Digitising biological collections to advance National Species Inventories: A case study from the flora of Chile

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 8, Issue 4, Page 1210-1222, July 2026.
In response to Chile's public policy to establish a national biodiversity inventory and monitoring system, we launched the HerbarioDigital.cl portal. We have digitised over 120,000 specimens representing more than 3,900 species from two Chilean herbaria, integrating them through a curated local taxonomic index.

Asthma in Children With Congenital Lung Malformations: A Population‐Based Case‐Control Study

open access: yesPediatric Pulmonology, Volume 61, Issue 7, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Congenital lung malformations (CLM) are developmental anomalies that may predispose to respiratory morbidity. Their association with asthma remains unclear, largely due to small series and the lack of population‐based controls. Objective To evaluate asthma prevalence and related outcomes in children with CLM compared to population ...

Increasing the Acceptability of Insect‐Based Foods as Future Foods: A Comprehensive Review of Barriers, Strategies, and Pathways to Mainstream Adoption

open access: yesComprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety, Volume 25, Issue 4, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Edible insects are increasingly recognized for their high nutritional value and favorable environmental profile, yet their acceptance (defined as the continuum from willingness to try and purchase to repeated consumption) in Western and globalized food systems remains limited by cultural, sensory, regulatory, and economic barriers.

Integrating Megabarcoding and Metabarcoding to Unlock Diversity and Distribution Data Shortfalls in Dark Taxa

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, Volume 26, Issue 5, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Persistent biodiversity data shortfalls undermine our capacity to detect species, map their distributions and characterize their spatial genetic structure, limiting robust biogeographic analyses and the development of effective conservation strategies.
