Brief communication: Extended chronology of the Cordón Caulle volcanic eruption beyond 2011 reveals toxic impacts [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, 2016
Aside of immediate impacts, the 2011 Puyehue–Cordón Caulle volcano (PCC) eruption also caused persisting chemical impacts. By 2012, toxicity resulted in overt dental fluorosis in deer, with bone fluoride increasing > 38-fold to 5175 ppm.

Reversibility of skeletal fluorosis. [PDF]

open access: yesOccupational and Environmental Medicine, 1983
At two x ray examinations in 1957 and 1967, 17 cases of skeletal fluorosis were identified among long term cryolite workers in Copenhagen. In 1982 four of these patients were alive, eight to 15 years after exposure had ended. Radiographs were obtained, and the urinary fluoride excretion was measured.

Fluoridation of Public Water Systems: Valid Exercise of State Police Power or Constitutional Violation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The addition of fluoride to public water systems is naively accepted by most Americans as a purported method of reducing tooth decay, but the toxic properties of fluoride and its effect on the human body are virtually unbeknownst to the public.

Research progress on the therapeutic effect of traditional Chinese medicine on fluorosis

open access: yes口腔疾病防治, 2019
Fluoride is an important trace element in the human body and has active chemical properties, but its safety range is narrow. Excessive intake of fluoride can easily lead to fluorosis and various metabolic disorders, mainly manifested as dental fluorosis ...

The continuing crippling challenge of skeletal fluorosis – Case series and review of literature

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Translational Endocrinology Case Reports, 2022
Background: Skeletal fluorosis is a metabolic bone disease that results from the chronic ingestion of fluoride. Although there are national programs in place to raise awareness and curtail this disease condition, skeletal fluorosis continues to cause ...

Dental fluorosis caused by volcanic degassing in West Ambrym, Vanuatu : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Earth Science at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Fluorosis, both dental and skeletal, is a disease afflicting millions of people worldwide and is caused primarily by the ingestion of fluoride-rich drinking water. Usually, this is groundwater that has leached fluoride from underlying rock deposits.

Adsorption and Sensing Behavior of Pristine, P‐Doped, and Al‐Doped Boron Nitride Nanosheets Toward Toxic Hydrogen Fluoride Gas: Insights from Density Functional Theory Analysis

open access: yesChemistryOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, May 2026.
This study reveals how pristine, P‐doped, and Al‐doped boron nitride nanosheets interact with toxic hydrogen fluoride (HF) gas using density functional theory (DFT) simulation. Enhanced adsorption and charge transfer in doped systems highlight their potential as sensitive and selective gas sensors, providing molecular‐level insights for nanoscale ...
