Mercury methylation by Geobacter metallireducens GS-15 in the presence of Skeletonema costatum.
Science of the Total Environment, 2019In this study, bacterial mercury (Hg) methylation was investigated under the influence of red-tide algae of Skeletonema costatum (S. costatum). The distribution and speciation of total mercury (THg) and methylmercury (MeHg) were profiled by employing ...

Biological control of Vibrio alginolyticus in Skeletonema costatum (Bacillariophyceae) cultures
Aquacultural Engineering, 1998A bacterial strain (SK-05), selected for its active growth in organic-poor substrates and inoculated in a Skeletonema costatum culture in late exponential growth, prevented the establishment of Vibrio alginolyticus, purposely introduced into the diatom culture. Since SK-05 has no bacteriostatic or antibiotic activity against V.

Competitive interaction between Ditylum Brightwellii and Skeletonema Costatum by toxic metabolites
Netherlands Journal of Sea Research, 1989Abstract Comparative growth experiments were carried out in order to examine the role of toxic metabolites in the competition between two marine diatom species. Ditylum brightwellii and Skeletonema costatum exhibited mutual inhibition and auto-inhibition. Charcoal filtration did not entirely remove the toxicity.

Growth and biochemical responses of Skeletonema costatum to petroleum contamination
Journal of Applied Phycology, 2016Clonal populations of the diatom Skeletonema costatum isolated from Lake Pontchartrain (Louisiana, USA) near the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil release were exposed to uncontaminated f/2 medium or light slop oil emulsified (O-E; 25, 50, 75, 100 % of initial levels) in f/2 during short- (10 day) and long-term (21 day) incubations. During 10-day incubations,

POPULATION GENETICS OF SKELETONEMA COSTATUM (BACILLARIOPHYCEAE) IN NARRAGANSETT BAY1
Journal of Phycology, 1980ABSTRACTDuring a two year period 457 clones of the diatom Skeletonema costatum were isolated prior to and during the summer‐fall and winter‐spring blooms of this species in Narragansett Bay, R.I. Their allozyme banding patterns were examined for 5 enzyme loci.

Roles of carbonic anhydrase in photosynthesis of Skeletonema costatum.
Zhi wu sheng li yu fen zi sheng wu xue xue bao = Journal of plant physiology and molecular biology, 2005The role of carbonic anhydrase (CA) in photosynthesis of the marine diatom Skeletonema costatum grown at ambient level of CO(2) was investigated. Extracellular CA activity was very low. In comparison, intracellular CA activity was great part of total CA activity.

Cultivation of diatom skeletonema costatum in airlift photobioreactor
This work aimed to examine the performance of 3 L airlift photobioreactor system on the cultivation of Skeletonema costatum compared to that in bubble column. Firstly, the experiment was set out to determine appropriate medium for Skeletonema costatum where it became apparent that the standard F/2 medium (Guillard's medium) could only yield the best ...openaire +1 more source
