Wind‐Driven Circulation Feedbacks Offset Tropical Geoengineered Sea Salt Emissions

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 17, 16 September 2026.
Abstract Using a NOAA Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory coupled atmosphere–ocean (CM4) comprehensive model, we employ simulations of enhanced, geoengineered sea salt aerosol (SSA) emissions in the tropics to examine the circulation response to idealized marine cloud brightening. Increased tropical SSA emissions cool the deployment region and weaken

Predictive models of seed yield in intermediate wheatgrass (Thinopyrum intermedium): The added value of a time series of multispectral imagery in semiarid environments

open access: yesAgronomy Journal, Volume 118, Issue 5, September/October 2026.
Abstract Accurate estimation of seed yield in perennial grains like Thinopyrum intermedium (intermediate wheatgrass [IWG]) remains a challenge due to high interannual and spatial variability of this important trait. We evaluated the potential of before‐harvest unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)‐derived multispectral vegetation indices to predict IWG seed ...

Per‐ and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) Exposure Profiles and Their Predictors in a Study of US Volunteer Firefighters

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Industrial Medicine, Volume 69, Issue 9, Page 745-764, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Firefighters may experience occupational exposure to per‐ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Volunteer firefighters make up 65% of the US fire service, but their serum PFAS profiles have not been well characterized. This study aims to (1) describe PFAS serum profiles among US volunteer firefighters from 9 states enrolled in ...

Long‐term trends in greenness in the alpine zone of northeastern North America from remote sensing

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 17, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Alpine zones above treeline in the Appalachian Mountains and adjacent ranges of northeastern North America support distinctive ecological communities that thrive where conditions are too harsh for trees to grow. These communities differ from alpine zones elsewhere on the continent and are a regionally important source of floristic biodiversity,

Thermochromic Radiative Cooling Coatings with Robust Superhydrophobicity for Energy‐Efficient Buildings

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, Volume 9, Issue 5, September 2026.
A scalable, color‐adaptive radiative cooling coating is developed to enable dynamic spectral regulation via a reversible thermochromic transition at ~45 °C and a high solar reflectance of 91.7%. The coating achieves 4.44 °C outdoor sub‐ambient cooling while providing robust superhydrophobicity and environmental durability through its micro/nano ...
