Securing Water in a Changing Climate: A Transient Solar Desalination Model for the Sundarbans, Bangladesh

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
This graphical abstract presents a solar‐powered reverse osmosis (RO) system for the Sundarbans, Bangladesh. Mechanistic modeling reveals a critical seasonal mismatch: during the monsoon, feed water salinity peaks (24.8 ppt) while solar irradiance drops significantly.

Assessing the morphologic, motoric and psychologic status of young boys in alpine skiing based on expert modelling

open access: yesKinesiologia Slovenica, 1998
We formed for a chosen sample of 24 young alpine skiers (11 -13 years old) a reduced prognostic model of competitive successfulness based on 8 morphological, 20 motor and 20 psychological variables, using the »expert system« method.

Station‐Based Assessment of Sub‐Seasonal Climate Trends in the Tyrolean Alps (Austria)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
In this study, we quantify the magnitude and significance of sub‐seasonal trends in the Tyrolean Alps (Austria) by collecting, processing and analysing meteorological observations from a dense network of climate stations. Our analysis indicates a warming rate of 0.43°C/dec over 1964–2023, greater sub‐seasonal trend variability when the analysis window ...

White light reduces flight height of birds in low‐density migration corridor

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
We conducted an experiment to better understand the effects of artificial light at night treatments of varying spectral power distributions on in‐flight migratory bird behavior as measured by a portable radar. Broad‐spectrum white light emissions reduced avian flight height as compared to dark periods and more than other light treatments.

A Global Citizen of the Skies

open access: yesEducational Futures, 2010
Global citizenship plays an important role in today's schools. Many subjects taught in schools have already incorporated such ideas. Science and physics have also followed suit.
