Emohance: Enhancing Emotional Arousal in Interactive Content via Real-Time Vibratory Feedback

open access: yesIEEE Access
Delivering mechanical vibratory stimuli to the upper body in synchronization with audiovisual content can enhance emotional experiences. Previous studies on emotion amplification have primarily focused on videos with predetermined emotional content and ...

Adaptive Deformation of Ionic Domains in Hydrogel Enforcing Dielectric Coupling for Sensitive Response to Mechanical Stretching

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, 2020
Understanding the role of ionic migration in salt‐doped hydrogels is crucial for designing and using ionic skins. This study systematically investigates a typical ionic skin in the aspects of variations in capacitance and conductance with respect to ...

Somatostatin receptor 4 (SSTR4) is a tumor suppressor in cutaneous and head & neck squamous cell carcinomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study identifies somatostatin receptor 4 (Sstr4) as a critical tumor suppressor against skin and head/neck cancers (HNSCC, cSCC, and BCC). The loss of Sstr4 removes a check on cell growth, causing hyperactivation of the MAPK‐ERK signaling pathway (↑).

Relationship between Properties of Words and Elicitation of Skin Conductance Response

open access: yes, 1999
We investigated the association of subject-rated imagery, subject-rated concreteness, subject-rated emotionality, frequency, date of entry into the language, and word length with emotional imagery as measured by the skin conductance response elicited by

Partial FAK suppression promotes tumor growth, an effect reversed by macrophage p110δ PI3K inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Partial inhibition of focal adhesion kinase (FAK) can paradoxically promote tumor growth, rather than simply producing a weaker antitumor effect than that observed with strong FAK suppression. In breast cancer and melanoma models, targeting p110δ PI3K, particularly in macrophages, counteracted these tumor‐promoting effects, highlighting the importance ...

Misophonia: physiological investigations and case descriptions

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2013
Misophonia is a relatively unexplored chronic condition in which a person experiences autonomic arousal (analogous to an involuntary fight-or-flight response) to certain innocuous or repetitive sounds such as chewing, pen clicking and lip smacking ...

A microcomputer package for real-time skin conductance response analysis

open access: yes, 1983
A suite of programs has been developed to acquire data from a commercially available, highquality skin conductance meter, via a standard IEEE bus, on an Apple II or Apple lie microcomputer.

Mechanisms and therapeutic opportunities of the ribotoxic stress response in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cancer cells' high translational demand creates opportunities to therapeutically target ribosome function. Ribosome stalling and collisions activate ZAKα and the ribotoxic stress response (RSR), which can trigger rapid, p53‐independent apoptosis in cancer.

Do ambient urban odors evoke basic emotions?

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2014
Fragrances, such as plant odors, have been shown to evoke autonomic response patterns associated with Ekman’s (Ekman et al., 1983) basic emotions happiness, surprise, anger, fear, sadness and disgust.
