Effects of laser welding on the microstructure evolution and corrosion resistance of a novel nitrogen-containing austenitic stainless steel QN2109

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
After laser welding, the corrosion resistance and microstructure of a newly developed austenitic stainless steel, QN2109, were investigated. A negligible heat-affected zone was found and the segregation of Cr, Mo, Mn, Ni, and N was revealed by EPMA.

Passive Films Formed on Fe- and Ni-Based Alloys in an Alkaline Medium: An Insight into Complementarities between Electrochemical Techniques and Near-Field Microscopies (AFM/SKPFM)

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
This study investigates the natural passivation process of two types of stainless steels (AISI 316 and AISI 304) and a nickel-based alloy (Inconel 600) as a function of immersion time in an alkaline medium.

Volta potential mapping of the gradient strengthened layer in 20CrMnTi by using SKPFM [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Materials Science, 2020
The purpose of this paper is to use SKPFM to characterize the gradient strengthened layer induced by the ultrasonic surface rolling process (USRP). A correlation between the dislocation, residual stresses, and SKPFM-derived Volta potential was obtained using scanning Kelvin probe force microscopy (SKPFM), electron back-scattered diffraction (EBSD ...

Biodegradation of Oxide Nanoparticles in Apoferritin Protein Media: A Systematic Electrochemical Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, Volume 10, Issue 33, November 23, 2023., 2023
Understanding how proteins biodegrade functional nanoparticles is crucial for their biomedical applications. Hence, the electronic properties, electrochemical response, and metal ion release of oxide nanoparticles are analyzed in phosphate‐buffered saline solution containing different apoferritin concentrations and pH values.

Metal–Matrix Composites from High‐Pressure Torsion with Functionalized Material Behavior

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 25, Issue 20, October 2023., 2023
Cu‐based metal–matrix composites are produced from mixed powders by high‐pressure torsion either with ZrO2 or BaTiO3 (BTO). The ceramics are successfully embedded in the metallic matrix. The BTO material exhibits a piezoelectric effect during bending and the stabilized high‐pressure phase of ZrO2 particles promotes self‐healing by earlier fatigue crack

Local Corrosion Behavior of Additive Manufactured AlSiMg Alloy Assessed by SEM and SKPFM [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of The Electrochemical Society, 2016
The local corrosion behavior of additive manufactured AlSiMg specimens was studied using the SEM and SKPFM techniques. A morphological characterization of corroded areas revealed that crystallographic pitting developed in the aluminum grains inside the melt pool borders, from where corrosion spread to adjacent zones.
