Cu‐Enhanced Medium‐Entropy TiZrCoCrMo Alloys: Balancing Superior Antibacterial and Osteogenic Properties for Orthopedic Implants

open access: yesRare Metals, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study introduces novel nonequiatomic TiZrCoCrMoCux (x = 0, 5, 10; at%) medium‐entropy alloys (MEAx) tailored for orthopedic implants, synergistically combining the biocompatibility of Ti‐based alloys, the wear resistance of CoCrMo alloys, and the antibacterial/osteogenic attributes of Cu. The alloy's microstructure, mechanical properties,

The detailed corrosion performance of bioresorbable Mg-0.8Ca alloy in physiological solutions

open access: yesJournal of Magnesium and Alloys, 2022
The electrochemical behaviour of biodegradable magnesium alloy Mg-0.8Ca was evaluated in a mammalian cell culture medium (MEM) and NaCl solutions (0.9 wt.%, 0.3 wt.%) using traditional (EIS, PDP, OCP) and local scanning electrochemical (SVET, SIET with ...

Phase Separation in Ti-6Al-4V Alloys with Boron Additions for Biomedical Applications: Scanning Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy Investigation of Microgalvanic Couples and Corrosion Initiation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
To investigate the effect of boron additions on the corrosion behavior of Ti-6Al-4V for potential use in biomedical implants and devices, cast samples of Ti-6Al-4V were alloyed with 0.01% to 1.09% boron by weight and subjected to hot isostatic pressing ...

Epitaxial Interface‐Driven Photoresponse Enhancement in Monolayer WS2–MoS2 Lateral Heterostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 8, 26 January 2026.
Surface potential distribution image, along with the derived electric field distribution across the interface, reveals that the electric field reaches its peak at the interface. Additionally, the spectral response of the heterointerface exhibits higher and broader features compared to its bare counterparts.

Evaluating the respective role of individual precipitates on the hydrogen trapping ability and locations of a co-precipitation enameled steel via in situ Scanning Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy

open access: yesPhilosophical Magazine Letters
The fishscaling resistance of enameled steel is closely related to the hydrogen-related behaviour of its constituent phases, in which dispersed co-precipitates are regarded as the most effective hydrogen-trapping sites.

Yttrium Addition Co‐Enhances the Plasticity and Corrosion Resistance of TiB2‐Refined Al‐Mg‐Zn Alloys

open access: yesRare Metals, Volume 45, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT To address the degradation of corrosion resistance induced by Al‐5Ti‐B grain refiner during the strengthening of Al‐Mg‐Zn alloys, this study innovatively employed a rare earth element yttrium (Y) alloying strategy to achieve synergistic enhancement of mechanical strength and corrosion resistance.

Improved Corrosion Resistance of Yttrium-Bearing H13 Steel for Shield Machine Cutter Ring

open access: yesMetals
H13 steel, which was used as the material for shield machine cutter rings, required tempering to attain superior mechanical properties. The Cr-rich carbide that precipitated during the tempering process definitely decreased the corrosion resistance of ...

Insight into sulfate-reducing bacteria corrosion behavior of X80 pipeline steel welded joint in a soil solution

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
The effect of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) on the corrosion behavior of X80 steel welded joint in a soil solution was studied. The results indicated that SRB enhanced the corrosion of X80 steel welded joint. The corrosion behavior in the heat affected

Strain‐Induced Piezo‐Optoelectronic Coupling in Monolayer MoS2

open access: yesSmall Structures, Volume 7, Issue 1, January 2026.
This work demonstrates direct piezo‐optoelectronic coupling in large‐area monolayer MoS2, where strain‐induced piezoelectric polarization modulates photocurrent generation. By linking nanoscale piezoresponse with device‐level photodetection, the authors show that mechanical strain serves as a controllable knob for exciton dissociation and charge ...

Corrosion behavior and mechanism of Mg–Er–Zn–Zr alloys in different states

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2022
The corrosion behavior and mechanism of as-cast, solid-solution treated, and as-extruded Mg-14.4Er-1.4Zn-0.3Zr (wt.%) alloys are investigated. The microstructure characteristic of as-cast alloy, i.e., the semi-continuous 18R-long period stacking ordered (
