Fabrication of a Stable, Low‐Cost, Patient‐Specific, Brain Phantom with Ventricles for Ultrasound Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Patient‐specific brain phantoms can replace animal trials, aid presurgical training, and enable in silico disease research on cerebrospinal fluid and ventricles. This study presents a method to create ventricular brain phantoms from three‐dimensional magnetic resonance images brain scans, resulting in durable, tunable, reproducible models that mimic ...

Surgery of the lateral skull base: a 50-year endeavour

open access: yesActa otorhinolaryngologica italica, 2019
SUMMARY Disregarding the widely used division of skull base into anterior and lateral, since the skull base should be conceived as a single anatomic structure, it was to our convenience to group all those approaches that run from the antero-lateral, pure

Multifunctional Hydroxyapatite Coated with Gallium Liquid Metal‐Based Silver Nanoparticles for Infection Prevention and Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A multifunctional hydroxyapatite (HAp) coating integrated with silver‐gallium liquid metal nanoparticles (HAp‐Ag‐GaNPs) exhibits dual antibacterial and osteogenic properties. It effectively inhibits Gram‐positive and Gram‐negative bacteria, including resistant strains, while enhancing bone regeneration.

Septal Perforation Quality of Life questionnaire (SEPEQOL): validation of a new instrument to assess patients undergoing endoscopic repair of a nasal septal perforation

open access: yesHead & Face Medicine
Purpose Nasoseptal perforations (NSP) are a clinically heterogeneous group of disorders with a wide range of available treatments. Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) can provide valuable insights for assessing clinical and surgical outcomes.

Genomic landscape of gliosarcoma: distinguishing features and targetable alterations

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Gliosarcoma is an aggressive brain tumor with histologic features of glioblastoma (GBM) and soft tissue sarcoma. Despite its poor prognosis, its rarity has precluded analysis of its underlying biology.

The Skull of Hatteria [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1899
IT may be worth while to draw the attention of naturalists to an omission in the figures of the skull of that archaic reptile, the Tuatara, that occur in two recent text-books of somewhat wide circulation, viz. Parker and Haswell's “Text-Book of Zoology” and Reynolds's “The Vertebrate Skeleton.” These figures are either copied or redrawn from Zittel's ...

A Vertically‐Stacked Optoelectronic Sensor for Localized Hemodynamics Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a hemodynamics monitoring sensor that features vertically stacked microLEDs and a heterogeneously integrated photodetector. The vertically stacked microLEDs enable localized measurements, and by designing the interoptode distance according to the depth of the target region, this vertically stacked optoelectronic sensor is ...

Head phantoms for electroencephalography and transcranial electric stimulation: a skull material study

open access: yes, 2018
Physical head phantoms allow assessing source reconstruction procedures in electroencephalography and electrical stimulation profiles during transcranial electric stimulation. Volume conduction in the head is strongly influenced by the skull representing
