Polarization‐Dependent Color Modulation in Electrodeposited Cellulose Nanocrystals and Birefringent Multilayers

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that wavelength selective reflection of circularly polarized light (CPL) of both handedness (right‐R or left‐L) can be achieved from self‐assembled cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs), breaking the inherent limitation of obtaining only L‐CPL reflection.

Selective Directional Enhancement in Gold/Perovskite Quantum Dot Metasurfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
A thin gold layer can selectively enhance the directional radiation of a perovskite quantum dot (QD)1D metasurface by incorporating hybrid plasmonic excitation and redistributing diffraction orders from substrate to cover. The use of template‐assisted self‐assembly techniques enables breakthrough tunability in radiative properties over large areas ...

High Fidelity Waveguides Through Vitreous Media Recomposition for Next Generation Photonic Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
A newly designed aluminosilicate glass enables the fabrication of femtosecond laser‐written optical waveguides with ultra‐low propagation losses of −0.020 dB cm−1 at 1310 nm and −0.037 dB cm−1 at 1550 nm. Raman, Brillouin, and electron microscopy analyses reveal the mechanisms behind refractive index modifications, highlighting the role of glass ...

Advancing Solar Modulation Ability of Near Infrared Thermochromic Cholesteric Liquid Crystal Smart Window Films Using a Waveplate

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents the use of a waveplate in thermochromic materials for smart windows. The waveplate enables the optical material to transition from a narrow band reflection to broad band ambidextrous reflection upon heating, resulting in a solar transmission modulation of 5.2% which is four times greater than typical thermochromic cholesteric liquid ...
